I have always loved the thought of this match-up. Who would win and how would it go down??? 15 rds of course.
Floyd is very smart as well, much smarter than he gets credit for. I don't think he would be outsmarted by Joe, and I think his technical skills were equal and his natural talent was superior. Maybe Floyd had the weaker chin, but Walcott wasn't much of a finisher, and he wasn't Chuvalo himself. But I know Walcott is everyone's crush on ESB so I'll be alone in this prediction.
I guess I need to do a Marciano or dempsey thread to get people blinded enough by both love and hatred to get any interest in a hypothetical...to me this would be one for the ages. I like both guys, but Jersey Joe is in my top 3 favorite Hw's....Frazier, Louis & Walcott, just something about them Joes. So I may be biased. I believe that Floyd would dictate the early rounds and have a slight lead around round 7 or so, before Joe's timing starts to swing the balance. I lean towards a Joe decision, but would not be surprised if he stopped Floyd late
Walcott would land the one to get things started Floyd was fast but flawed and could be timed....Walcott times him, tags him and Floyd flounders
Patterson was teed up time and again for the right in his first fight with Johansson, and even to a degree in the second fight. I think Walcott would do the same with his booming overhand right.
Walcott by UD. He'd take a couple of rounds to get Floyd's timing down then smoothly outbox him the remainder of the fight.
The pace Patterson fought at would be too much for Walcott, especially down the stretch. Patterson's speed sees him getting through Walcott defence far more than most. Walcott would have his moments and may score a flash KD or 2
I think that Patterson would be leading on the cards, when he walked into one of Walcotts patternt counters and got counted out.
I'm not sure why everyone is picking Walcott to win by KO when he hardly scored many KO's over rated opposition. I mean what's his second best KO? Curtis Sheppard?
A man named Harold Johnson, who very well may have beaten Floyd Patterson. Cus D Amato certainly made it clear they wanted no part of Harold during Floyd's reign. Walcott was the first to floor rock chinned Rocky Marciano, put Louis down 3 times, and knocked out a prime ezzard charles with 1 punch. That said, I think very highly of Floyd Patterson and I think he has what it takes to beat Walcott in a close decision or perhaps knock out if he gets off a big combination late.
Harold Johnson fell over with a back injury, a back injury isn't a KO win Again, I specifically asked for second best KO win, not someone he knocked down and failed to put away and not first best KO win that he couldn't replicate in 3 other fights against the same opponent His second best KO win not involving a back injury http://news.google.com/newspapers?i...,3513079&dq=harold+johnson+walcott+back&hl=en http://news.google.com/newspapers?i...,3513079&dq=harold+johnson+walcott+back&hl=en http://news.google.com/newspapers?i...,6181799&dq=harold+johnson+walcott+back&hl=en
It is partly based on the liklihood of him catching Patterson. Walcott was verry good at making fighters who tried to press him walk into a punch they didn't see coming. Louis and Marciano were able to get up from these punches, but I think that Charles was more durable than Patterson. Just one scenario that might unfold.
