No, instead you wait until he looks sufficiently aged to be less capable...oh...that's what they did. If there was zero element of cherry-picking they'd have taken the fight sooner.
Ain't she just? Awful tempted now though to change it for a picture of Chris Farley. Dead. But I won't...Sasha brightens up everyone's day... :hey:tong
I think you are dead worng on ll of those. Berto vs Ortiz was a legit fight between two young fighters HBO were hyping-up for awhile. However here are two "cherry-picks" that I can think of...Chazz Witherspoon was a big time Amatuer standout and nephew (I think) of a former old school Heavyweight title holder. HBO was shocasing him versus a fat Heavyweight was supposed to be an easy win....Chris Arreola. Arreola got his 15 Minutes based on this fight. And Ortiz vs Maidana...**** gettin' busy at work. gotta go.
Someones prob put it down but Paulie M's last fight was a hilarious example of cherry picking gone wrong. Caught beatings from hatton and khan, thought to have no power, moving up in weight and travelling to eastern europe to fight in his last fight. Then proceeds to put a whooping on his opponent with a fantastic performance. Absolutely hilarious.
I'm not really a big Pac fan, but i don't think Marquez appeared to have declined (that much) at all? Aside from the Floyd fight, which was just all wrong for him stylistically, he had been whipping ass as usual. I called it from the beginning that the fight would pretty much be like their first two fights. Guys don't fight 24 rounds neck and neck, and all the sudden the third fight becomes a one-sided shutout. Marquez certainly didn't appear to have fallen off enough to not be able to handle, and time Pac like he did their first two fights. After Pac/Marquez II, they both went in different directions. Pac wanted to start moving up in weight, and got the DLH offer after his first fight at lightweight, one fight removed from Marquez II. After that, he was a PPV star, and simply tried to make the most profitable PPV's possible, like any other PPV star does. Just don't think Pac/Marquez III can be classified as a cherry pick based on their prior history.
