I have to disagree finley, like you I was 'back around then' too, & before the Benn fight? The media had painted him as an arrogant villain, & the nation tuned in to see the 'big mouth' get a pasting. It was only after the fight though when Eubank spoke so well of Benn that people woke up & smelled the coffee, that Eubank wasnt a ''****" but a deep character, who I for one took to instantly as a young man. People can debate the merits of Eubank the fighter, but to say Eubank was a nothing more than a **** who could fight? & thats why people tuned in to watch him??? I dont get that reasoning at all. If you want to talk about utter cocks who could fight? You are talking the David Hayes of this world. There was more substance to Chris Eubank than bigging himself up whilst smacktalking opponents to sell tickets, Eubank was a guy who spoke his mind & was as deep as the ocean all at the same time, he had a charisma that proper big mouthy cocks like David haye could never have.
Hated Eubanks at the time and always watched hoping he got a major put down. Only in the last few years have I appreciated him for his boxing and no matter what he always gave his all in the ring and was involved in some superb scraps through the years. Bit of a marmite man but he's ok with me.
