TBH i need to get my backside down the gym as well, purely swimming at the moment and i'm feeling the weight on days like today. Wish i wasn't working till 10 most nights, got to sort it out and try get a sesh in here and there. Jackal i started with my dad from early, but didn't set foot into a AM gym until i was 11. I did Kickboxing before that and bided time before dad had his way .
You'll be fine mate. A couple of sessions and you'll be hooked!! Make sure you come back on and let us know how it goes :good
Don't get too hung up on the age thing. I was 9/10 when I first trained properly, but even some of the best amateurs that I've known were late starters well into their mid-late teens. Good luck mate.
If your into your fitness and the sweet science you should love it .Just join and try and get in the best shape possible then sooner or later you could be fighting .
I did a bit when I was 13 for nothing serious just the odd gym sessions I was more into playing football but started attending regular sessions when I was 29, now 31. You will see the benefits (body wise and fitness wise) within 2 months I promise.
Quite interested reading this. I've really gotten into boxing in the last couple of years or so, and have been really entertaining the idea of going, but like OP am a bit nervous about the prospect. I don't have any experience though, so I'm not really sure what I would be looking for TBH. Anyone got any advice?
Because boxing is such a disiplined sport, 99% of the people down the gym are sound lads. Soon as i recover from my knee operation im back down there (In 8 months lol)
Im 25 now been boxing about 6 months now. Having so much fun, even though im really terrible, so unnatural with the sweet science. There is a few things that you need to get your head around (well i did anyway). Walking through that door on the first is the first big step Not being afriad to be punched the face Not being afraid to punch someone else thoughs are the steps i had to overcome, the rest just comes with hard work inside and outside the gym, listening to your coach and discipline(practice, no drugs, no smoking and curbing for drinking). Also all the lads in my gym are cool as ****, pretty sure thats universial too. it is funny to see thoses guys coming through expecting to ko ppl in their first week, demand sparing, then leave after 2-3 weeks, after realising how hard it is.
Remember that however easy you thought it was, the day after your first session you will hurt more than you ever thought possible.
When I was going to the boxing gym, most guys there were cool. No problems. No one was acting all arrogant because they were more advanced or anything. People were friendly. I think boxing makes folks humble. Maybe there is a bigger concentration of ****s in football.
First time i entered the gym i went with a mate and we were both expecting the place to be full of meathead hardcases, how completley wrong we both were, it was the exact oppersite, a lot of quiet, humble, really nice set of lads....First start off with an hours fitness class, staying behind for an hours technique, after a couple of months, if your doing ok, you may get to do some body sparring,,,then full sparring , continue going and within 12 months you may get your first fight if you so wish.....Best of luck mate!
