To be fair Vitali quit against Bird for the right reasons. Carrying on would have damaged his health and likely ended his boxing career. He was ahead on all the cards and simply make a good call on his health and remaining career

 

He could easily have kept Byrd away for the remaining 3 rounds..
That cost him a lot, basically setting him back due to the fact Usa networks recognised him as a quitter. It was first 3 years later against Lewis, he redeemed himself.

The second one (Rahman) is more embarassing as he was a seasoned champion at that point. He also failed to beat the count so was KO'd proper.
