Your thoughts on George Groves' fight last night?

shown he is a warrior once again
needs to improve on getting in and then out again, with his style he can't stay in the mixer

He impressed me w/his toughness honestly I didn't expect him to survive once be got into the "****".
Great finisher, But Sierra was a mummy who managed to crack Groves a couple times solid.
Again, good test... Will watch again that's for sure.

 

He needs to ditch The Dark One and find a trainer that will help him work to his strengths.

Something as simple as not fighting like Haye would be a start.

i agree. he needs to box more and stop head-hunting. hes just looking for trouble

 

George doesnt have a great chin & he marks up & cuts easily. He doesnt have the speed or reflexes to keep his hands so low.

George needs to find a more effective style & stop trying to fight like Haye, more emphasis on defence & he is overwilling to exchange & slug with guys he shouldnt.

He is a fun fighter to watch but always makes easy fights hard.

 

Yep. He showed a capability to box and avoid getting into a war when he fought DeGale though. Perhaps he needs to enter the ring with that strategy to see it through.

He does cut-up very easily, which will probably cost him at some point. Saying that, it never really effected Hatton too much.

Groves has a nice variety of punches, can use them in combination and has good power. His tendency to get dragged into a war won't do him any harm interms of making fans, although it might shorten his career.

De La Hoya was Tweeting about him last night - "a star is born". I doubt he'd have provoked that reaction by boxing-and-moving.

I enjoy watching him and I'm looking forward to seeing what he does next. He'll probably fight Anderson, then another guy at Euro level. The world scene at 168 is ridiculous, so he can't rush into that.

 

sierra's no mug so it was a good show by groves

 

I liked the variety of punches, early on was willing to work on the body which I felt set up the finish later on as Sierra looked sluggish.

And an excellent finisher. The finish Similar to the 4 punches Haye landed on Dereck Chisora to finish him off. If he's as exciting as Haye (cruiser version) he's not going to go wrong.

 

I thought he looked really good. Also I love Adam Booth fighters cause they all throw absolute bombs and put their punches together great in combinations. The KO was very impressive! I could watch that **** all day:good

If there's any critism it would be that groves' D was a little open. But that being said he didn't really start getting hit until he had softened up Sierra and was going in for the kill. So he was pretty responsible early on when he had to be, which shows maturity but I would have like to see him be able to go in for the kill and still be able to keep things a little tighter. Otherwise he'll find it difficult to use his best offensive weapons once he reaches the top level.

 

Ive enjoyed Groves short career so far and he and DeGale have both been matched tough in their careers so far, for how early their careers are.
I would say with Groves last night that he finished the fight really well, but he does mark up badly and seem open for counters early in alot of fights

 

Golden Boy do have a vested interest in Groves. Thats why he signed with Frank W instead of Matchroom, so he could reserve this arrangement with GBP on his foreign fights. (IIRC)
