So who exactly would you have matched him up with at this stage of his career? I mean seriously, honestly thought it was terrific match making.
Sierra has held the NABO title, beaten Don George, and has knockout wins over Esteban Camou and Henry Porras, aswell as a draw with Dyah Davis. Now that by no means makes him a World beater but shows he's a solid domestic level fighter on the US scene, and that's exactly the level of fighter they'd want for Groves to showcase himself, which he did superbly. Is Sierra static ?, yes, is he easy to hit ?, very much so, but he has potential to cause problems with what he throws back if a fighter isn't as defensively sound as Groves is.
Groves is great to watch, thats the type of finish that makes people sit up and take notice. Still he has a habit of getting hit with punches he shouldnt, often in awkward positions or when hes punching himself. Bit more head movement and stop posing with that left low, give Groves some more tough learning fights and hed be good to go against most in the division
Sierra had 24 wins and 22 of those wins coming by KO he wasnt a boxer with lots of talent he was a brawler, and Groves out punched a puncher who has been in with Abraham, Miranda and many others
It's a better way of gaining experience.... given the lack of dangerous domestic bangers on the scene these days.
Sierra has been in with some good fighters and beaten some, not great on he world scene but a good fighter nonetheless and presents a different style of fighter. Groves did what he should be doing to fighters like sierra, a good performance overall. You can't say just because he got blown out in a round by Miranda that he is shite, look at Khan vs Prescott...
Wasnt it on Boxnation? If not why not? Nice finish aswell, good combo to put him down and then a bomb straight away after the count, quality he looked pretty good, I do think its great shame the lack of exposure for one of the best british talents we have!
:tired - Anderson should be concentrating on people his own level. He's got nothing for Groves to get motivated for. George needs to move on to bigger and better things (Steiglitz, Abraham). Anderson needs to fight Paul Smith and if he wins then look for Defail. They are miles apart in terms of ability. He has made a name for himself off the back of getting chinned by George.
