a new kid with some potential and it looks like he can punch....Its been a while, is it a sign of the times. Remember, Leonard,Chonski,Ross, Artie Levine, etc. Will hard times in America bring back the other ethnic groups? http://vimeo.com/46572593
No there won't start being enough participation. But if there is a boxer of Jewish ethnicity they'll be protected and hyped to the hills like Roman Greenburg before being brutally knocked out Explain to us again why a fighter is a 'throwback' because he's Jewish?
In the golden days there were many Jews that were great fighters who saw boxing as a rough but quick path to get out of the Ghetto, same with Italians,Irish,Polish,Blacks,Spanish, etc. the last 40 years there has been less and less in the USA and the ones that have have been basically middle class. These days a lot of people are struggling + it may bring in a lot of the struggling with a sense of hunger.
They way the economy is these days, you might see a lot of middle aged guys jumping into the ring, of all ethnic backgrounds. We'll need an over 40 league.
There is a small hand full of young Jewish boxers in the sport right now. Yuri Foreman was a world champion. Dmitriy Salita and Ran Nakash both had unsescfull atempts at one. Along with Cletus Seldin, Zac Wohlman and Boyd Melson are good young prospects. Melson has a day job and donates his fight earnings to stem cell reasearch. Look up fight to walk. If you have a chance. Zab Judah isn't Jewish but future light heavyweight champion Isaac Chilemba is. He's a Lemba a Southern Afracian people who are genetically Jewish. Considering that Jews make up about .2% of the world population. I would say we've done very well in the sport of boxing throughout the years.
