There talk of Pavlik vs Zuniga 2

It was Zuniga and the IBF immediately offered Lorenzo to substitute Oral after he injured his hand badly. But now the freaks over at the WBC made Lorenzo their mandatory challenger fo having done nothing at all :-(.

Plus Zuniga and his management now try to cash in, offering themself for a shot at Pavlik in June.

Abraham is the man who's really in a bad position. No one legitimately wants to fight him in first place. Regardless of the bout being held in Germany or the US. But I think that's normal because everyone wants to fight the champ rather than the top contender.

Funny thing is that no one wants to be AA mandatory, hopefully he gets to fight one of the guys who will be left out in the cold by Team Pavlik.

Only worry I have is Arum's latest statements that he isn't eager to buildup a fight between Pavlik and Abraham but rather develope Lee into Pavlik's heir apparent, giving him the TV spot as the main support to Pavlik's bout on June 7, not giving AA the chance to expose himself to the US public. Hopefully HBO demands AA being on the televised undercard...

 

Zuniga/Oral was the original IBF eliminator. I just couldn't recall the name. I was not aware that Lorenzo was offered the fight after Oral pulled out.

I agree about Lorenzo. I am really sick of guys suddenly appearring in a top spot without ever fighting anyone in the top 40 let alone the top 5.

Abraham and Wright are the only fights that really challenge Pavlik's supremacy at 160. I'm hoping that HBO does show Abraham on an undercard, and that Wright/Sturm really happens. Andy Lee should have to bring up the rear. He needs at least two names on his resume, before he gets his shot. 160 has potential. We are in a bit of a dead spot at the moment, but if things go down in any manner that resembles fairness, it could get really hot.

Didn't Zuniga just win the IBO super middleweight title in an upset. Is he even going to stay at middleweight. Even so, Pavlik fought good against him and they fought a lot on the inside, not typical Pavlik. Zuniga is a strong SOB and very durable, he was stopped on cuts and his corner stopped it, not him. Would be a good fight but Pavlik already beat him and should move on to other things. Zuniga needs to get a fight against another belt holder and win to get a rematch with Pavlik. I don't see it happening here. Pavlik will make a mandatory defense to get it out of the way and then move on to a lucrative fight in late september/october.

 

Btw, I heard that the Bobster scratched unification plans for Pavlik and is instead looking to schedule Pavlik vs. Duddy for late November, early December. Let's see who Kelly is going to face in June, September...

 

I would very much like Abraham to make himself a factor. Even if it's on Showtime, he needs to fight in the United States and force the hand of Arum. Right now, most fans know as much about Abraham as they do about Zuniga. Duddy actually brings more money to the table than AA, and that's a shame.

Pavlik has two options for legitimate, difficult MW defenses: Abraham or Wright. Zuniga isn't bad, but he isn't at the level of those two. And Lee might get there, but he needs better wins to fully establish himself as a threat.

Gary Lockett, the article doesn't seem to think much of him.

Hbo is defenitly rewarding Pavlik for his past battles.

No problem, just push for Abraham or Wright soon.

Lockett and Lorenzo seemed as the logical choices.

Both are mandatories, if I'm correct, and would have to have been fought sooner or later.

Although financial considerations surely played a part as well.

 

As GG already said: At least, Pavlik gets a mandatory ou of his way - I bet Lorenzo is next .

 

I know. I'm not blaming Pavlik so much, just once again frustrated by the system. If I were Kelly, I'd keep only one of the belts. Everyone knows he's the man, and HBO will make sure just in case anyone doesn't. No belt can trump him, as long as he stays at 160 and keeps winning.

 

fulgencio zuniga would be a repeat...but fernando zuniga would beat pavlik.
