The Hawk vs The Golden Boy! For 12 rounds (I don't see any evidence for how Oscar would do over 15). How does this play out, who wins and why? Who do you rate higher?
I went with DLH, he's bigger, technically better and does better against come forward fighters. The main problem for DLH though is he likes to take time off in rounds and sometimes likes to brawl. If he brawls like the Mosley bout and/or doesn't dictate the pace and takes time off then Pryor will be all over him
Oscar on his best day handles Pryor on his. Better at everything besides Pryor's blackbottle stamina :verysad
Pryor was a non stop punching machine. DLH had a tendency to fade in the later rounds. DLH has his moments but Pryor stamina is too much specially if its a 15 round fight. Pryor by decision in a good fight.
Oscar was bigger and more durable than Arguello even if not taller . Also , both Arguello and Cervantes , especially Cervantes really were past their prime by d time they fought Pryor and this is prime vs prime . Both Arguello and Cervantes r overrated , Cervantes more so . Pryor is even more overrated than Cervantes . Who did Pryor ever beat ? got no reply . black bottle vs past his prime Arguello and who knows what in d rematch vs a ruined even more past his prime Arguello . Had it not 4d black bottle , d Pryor legend might have stopped right there and then , and Pryor would have been remembered 4 what he was , a contender with amateur credentials whom could not make it in d pros . I rank DLH higher and i think that without black bottles , loaded gloves and 1 sided cheating , DLH would have won . I saw DLH's stamina getting criticized but no1 ever stopped him due 2 it and didn't he give Quartey a good beating near d end of their fight ? and Quartey >>>>>> Pryor even if not stylistically compatible .
DelaHoya drops him a couple times probably on the way to a mid-rounds stoppage or decision. Oscar does well against smaller, wild, come-forward guys with little defense. Too sharp and too cool. He counters the crap out of Pryor.
Wha? I'm the only guy to pick the Hawk? The best junior-welterweight of all times? DLH was a welterweight who naturally grew into a 154 fighter. He'd be weight drained and too light at 140 to keep up with Pryor's relentless pace and attacker. I don't think DLH is a better boxer than Arguello and look what Pryor did to him. The Hawk on points.
I voted Pryor by decision but in reality this would probably be razor close & could go either way... I see DLH getting the better of the first half of the fight & Pryor taking over in the second half of the fight, his stamina is quite a bit better than Oscar`s... it really depends how much of a lead Oscar can build before Pryor takes over, I`d be suprised if Oscar could outbox Pryor for the whole 12 rounds, he has a tendency to brawl in tough fights. I see it as inevitable that Pryor wins the latter rounds, not by domination but simply by stamina & workrate. A flash knockdown or 2 either way would not suprise me, a stoppage in a 12 round fight between these 2 however would blow my mind. Interesting fight.
I think Chavez is the greatest LWW of all time... but I ever so slightly side with you, Pryor on points. Close fight tho.
The only time Oscar faded was in the first Mosley fight when he didn't train and in the Mayweather fight when he was well past it. He won a ton of fights in the late rounds
Pryor to win probably by decision but don't be to surprised if the hawk stops Oscar late if the fight is over 15 rounds
