In the period of a week Floyd Mayweather and his associate have revolutionized boxing and reinvigorated it by aggressively pursuing talent. Though they have signed some very good fighters the best is yet to come. Though the signing of Gamboa and Dirrell is newsworthy it is safe to expect more announcements to be made in the coming weeks that will eclipse even Mayweathers release. An attempt to reach Jeff Mayweather was made to arrange an interview. In particular Jeff Mayweather was asked if Miguel Cotto would be signed. His response was, There is way too much to discuss or way too much to reveal so I will stay closed lip on this one. If Cotto does indeed join The Money Team it would be huge, as Cotto is one of the top draws in the business. Considering that Cotto is looking at a possible match with the young and dangerous Saul Alavarez later this year, signing him would lead to the co-promotion of a major card within the next year. http://theboxingtribune.com/2012/08/miguel-cotto-to-join-the-money-team/
im thinking everybody is tired of goldenboy and tr not making the fights people want, so, change is needed nobody should be surprised that everyone is signing with tmt
I actually don't mind another promoter in the game if better fights get made. My only hope is that boxing doesn't get even more fracture with fighters fighting only within their own promotional house. It's really painful to see that Golden Boy and TR not work together to make fights fans want to see.
Cotto and Mayweather worked together well for their last fight; both made tons of cash. However, Cotto seems to really like being a free agent after all those years fighting for Arum. He only has a couple of big fights left in him, this will be interesting.
Cotto(e) is the the 3rd biggest draw in US boxing so that would be a major signing but as a fan of his I hope he just stays with either Top Rank or GBP.
I could totally see Miguel being not only signed but made a partner, much like Oscar did with Hopkins. Cotto has a stable of fighters as well, and could bring it all under the TMT banner. That would be cool as **** if in the next 5 years, we see Floyd and Miguel standing in the ring and at press conferences as promoters, like we see Oscar and Bernard.
u clowns..50 cent was making fun of cotto on the 24/7 for poking big boi's butt..lol cotto gonna say **** that ninja..
Yeah no doubt but TMT may have a lot of money obviously but there's just so much into promoting a fight that they don't know about, Top Rank promoted Cotto so well in NYC. Back in 2005 and 2006 when Cotto was starting to become real popular you could have have gone into any Puerto Rican neighborhood in New York and I always saw billboards of him and whatnot and on the 4,5,6 train lines which runs through the main PR neighborhoods you saw posters of him on the subway all the time. But yeah I hope TMT pans out well but I have my doubts to be honest, they got the money but knowledge on how to get the ship moving properly is where it could be worrisome for them.
TMT promotions can become the best promotions if they're willing to work with both Top Rank and GBP promotions. Both Top Rank and GBP are only looking to make "in house" fights, but if TMT promotions can work with both promotions, they can become a very successful promotions.
If it were me, I'd try to get Cotto on my team. It's nice to have a big name on your roster when you're trying to build up credibility.
