Thinking about getting a double end bag as i can throw uppercuts and a wider variety of punches on it, are there any advantages a heavy bag has over a double end?

Please tell me the Pros and cons of each.

    Cheers

Double ended bag helps you work on your speed, accuracy, and reflexes. The heavy bag helps you work on your punching power.

i'll take a heavy bag anyday over a double end bag! Heavy bag trains your stamina and power.

I think I agree but I do love the double ended bag and I think it's very useful. It just depends on what your looking to accomplish, getting better accuracy and reflexes or looking to build your punching power?

I love the double end and have just got back into it in a big way.
But it's pointless comparing them. They have completely different purposes and should be judged on their usefullness.
Heavy bag-Technique,power,endurance.Basically the whole package when it comes to punching.
Double End-Reflex,speed,head movement, accuracy and foot placement.
I never go for power on the DEB and am finding it hard to get hooks in my combos.First time I'd used it in years last week and for the first two rounds I hardly got into double figures for connected punches.Loving it now though.Probably my favourite piece of equipment.

This is like asking shall I buy some new trainers or a T-shirt? Two completely different things.

    Just throwing this out there....
I love both tools, but double end bag is probably my favorite.
When I use the double end bag regularly, I find that it maintains my skills better between sparring sessions - especially if I incorporate head movement & reacting to the bag instead of just punching it.

The heavy bag has its place, but anyone can hit a heavy bag.

Not everyone can hit a double end bag.

If you're looking to spar or compete..the double end bag is your best friend. If you train for fitness and want power go ahead and use the heavy bag. You have to throw nearly perfect punches on the double end bag for it swing back effectively it has to be technically sound with a snap or a grab motion. If not you'll wear yourself out trying to powerhouse a bag that asks to be hit professionally. When the hooks perfect the bag doesn't go left to right it shoots right back to you parry block duck whatever. Throw the hooks closer to t center of bag. If you neglect footwork you only get half the benifits of this bag..this bag should come before heavy bag work in my opinion

The only con I can think of with the double end bag is that you tend not to "punch" it, instead can develop a lazy habit of sticking your arm out, and just letting the elasticity bounce off your fist. I call those half punches, or pokes. See people do it all the time. Double end bag seems clearly neglected in a lot of places I go.
