Remember, Gatti famously got up from liver punches and took more punches directly afterward to the same area. Punches like that KO'ed guys like ODLH, Castillo and Dorin. Gatti could take shots to the body.
Gatti was visibly hurt (or dropped) to the body from Patterson, DLH, Mayweather and Ward. His heart kept him in it and he recovered but he was not exactly James Toney or Muhammad Ali in taking body blows. On top of that, Hatton was simply a better fighter than Gatti.
:deal This and I dont even like Hatton, but he would be all over Gatti like white on rice and Gatti doesnt have the power or skills to keep him off
Nah Gatti could punch at 140, don't get it twisted. The problem would be that Hatton would give him no room to get those loaded shots off, because hatton would be in his grill all night mauling, bodyshotting, forearming, left hooking Gatti continuously. And Gatti did have decent boxing skills, but he could never outbox Hatton with his footspeed and Gatti's inferior movement speed which even Ward could catch up to from time to time. But lets be objective, Gatti did have power and would have enough to stun Hatton to the very least. Gatti hit harder than Mayweather did at that weight, IMO. But ultimately he would be overwhelmed. I think people are underestimating Gatti. Watch his fights coming up, watch his fights before Mayweather. If you look at his fight with Hoya he did pretty good and made a fight out of it, he just couldn't put a dent in hoya's jaw, and hoya was just too big and overwhelmed him. I think he could possibly hurt hatton, but i dont see it happening much, as he would get crowded all night and have no room to be set to get his right hand off.
Of course he was visibly hurt, most guys don't get up from liver punches. Ask ODLH, he can tell you first hand how the one from Hopkins took him out. If I remember the post-fight interview, he said something like: "I wanted to get up, but I couldn't feel my legs anymore. ." You can see his reaction to the punch around :30 into the first video below. [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FNNJjfx-Ojc[/ame] When Ward dropped Gatti with that same punch in the beginning of the round, Gatti fought his way up, withstood an onslaught of punches to that same area and came back to outwork Ward in the Round of the Century. Emanuel Steward was amazed and commented on how most fighters couldn't get up, and certainly wouldn't continue to fight. It was an amazing display of toughness. Gatti is so underrated on ESB its not even funny. [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AZP-IfSZxl0[/ame]
That heart could only get him so far against better fighters. Hatton would keep attacking the body. Against a guy like Ward, he mainly had to worry about the left hook downstairs, and Ward was much slower in setting it up. Hatton was much faster than Ward, and also would rotate his body to get angles on the body shots. He'd pivot, quickly move his body in ways to get in the right position, and work the body. Maybe Gatti could catch Hatton with something big and stop him, but I definitely make him the underdog.
Two of my favourite fighters. However one kept up with Floyd for 6 - 8 rounds , the other couldnt keep up with Floyd for 1 round. Hatton in about 5 - 7 rounds and makes Gatti look like he has gone 15 bloody rounds.
gatti shows heart but the step up in class is to much like usual for arturo. 140 ricky was not gianluca branco. hatton by referee stoppage
Hatton is at least a league and a half above Gatti and beats the living **** out of him 10 times out of 10.
This fight shouldve happened in june 2005 as floyd vs tszyu shouldve fought each othe but we got the wrong fights as usual. anyway id take gatti he showed he could handle wars and punishment easy hatton didnt
