Solo Boxeo: Bryan Vera vs. Sergio Mora II & Antonio Escalante vs. Leonilo Miranda RBR

I mean, technically Ronnie's right, everything Vera is doing is what you'd consider "wrong", blocking with his face and not setting his feet to throw - but it's working for him here.

He's basically doing a Margarito or Soto Karass (or Segura) impersonation, walking through anything Mora throws to rough him up, and Mora's just letting him...not getting away with any of that movement, holding, and volume countering he did against Mosley for instance.

 

Round 7

Double left hook to the body by Vera and one upstairs. Right hand over the top by Vera pushing Mora back to the ropes. Vera lunges with a jab and connects it over Mora's glove, crunching his nose and tilting his head back. Mora tries to line up straight right counters but can't move Vera a centimeter. Leaping jab/hook hybrid by Mora, BANG on the chin, and Vera doesn't bat an eyelash. Mora is WINDED, breathing heavily through his mouth. Vera comes in with a gale of uppercuts and then hooks Mora in the mouth. Mora looks ready to quit!! Mora backs up to the ropes and drops his hands. BIG RIGHT HAND BY VERA!!!! ANOTHER!! MORA STAGGERED!

Round 8

Vera is plugging away to the body coming forward. Mora throws a right hand as a ruse and then ties up but Vera shakes him off and keeps coming. Jabs thrust out far by Vera, chasing Mora to the ropes. Mora holds and shuffles around him. Mora pops a short right hand in Vera's face while backing up. Vera steps in and misses a jab over Mora's shoulder but digs a hook to the body. Jab to the face by Vera. Right hand by Vera as Mora ducks back almost sitting on the ropes and he gets hugged tight. Several hooks to the body and one to the jawline by Vera. Right hand by Vera misses as Mora tucks his chin and pops his left shoulder up. Right hand by Mora while getting pushed to the ropes by a Vera volley.

Round 9

Jabs by Vera. Mora backs up and swings a wide right hand, getting caught in a clinch. Vera shrugs him off and jabs out at him and Mora falls to the ground, ruled a slip although it excites the crowd. Right hand by Vera misses. Overhand right by Mora misses. Stiff left jab by Vera. Right hand to the mouth by Vera. Mora tries to bounce his back off the ropes but seemingly lacks the energy and flops in against Vera instead. Mora rolls his upper body around slipping Vera's jab, then gets propped up against the ropes. Mora looks absolutely exhausted. Vera jabs him in the face a few times and then throws an uppercut to the body. Wild right hand over the top by Vera missing as Mora shrinks down into the fetal position again. Flush right hand by Mora off the ropes. Vera doesn't back off. Vera jabs down at Mora's face. Right hands and left hooks by Mora, exploding for a few seconds, landing several power punches. BIG RIGHT HAND by Vera puts and end to that and punctuates the round.

In their first meeting I had it 98-92 Vera and was baffled by not only the scorecard turned in by that one judge who had it 96-94 to Mora but also by several posters here (a vocal minority) who thought Mora had won.

Round 10

Vera chases Mora to the ropes missing jabs. Wild hooking combos by Vera as Mora ducks low and makes him miss over his back. Counter uppercut by Mora to get off the ropes. Uppercut by Vera in the middle of the ring. Mora shakes it off and lands a quick right hand. Another! MORA LIGHTING VERA UP WITH RIGHT HANDS, pushing him to the ropes. Left hookercut by Mora while Vera stands pat and takes it with his hands down. Mora actually putting some sting on these shots, as Vera isn't laughing anymore. Vera gets Mora in a headlock with his left and taps with his right. Mora leans back against the ropes and slips some shots. Mora's knee touches the canvas, but no knockdown ruled! Technically that could have been. Mora is now laughing, aping and dangling his arms at his sides, leering and almost sticking his tongue out at Vera. A few wild lunges and misses by Vera and Mora counters out of a crouch with right hands before falling back into one.

Round 11

Vera runs straight at Mora and starts to jab at his body. Mora is hugging the ropes, slithering along and giving up his back to Vera. Left hook to the face by Vera as Mora ventures out on a field trip to the Tecate logo. Jabs to the body by Vera, mostly caught on the arms. Mora ducks very low under a Vera overhand right. Jabs to the body by Vera, ducking forward. Mora catches him on the face with a quick left counter jab. Vera pushes Mora to the ropes and drops his fists on him several times in rapid succession from above. Mora is able to squirm through and roll with the shots so many of them slide off his shoulders. Mora lands a right hand over the top as Vera comes forward, then moves left and pops a few jabs in his face. Vera unloads a straight combo on Mora, keeping him on the ropes. Mora tries to duck down and to his right and gets smacked in the face with a left hook.
