This guy was fun to watch, had a fight of the year on ESPN FNF and I certainly saw a furture for him. Now he's going over to MMA? Why?
Gonna go to MMA to roll around on the floor with a bunch of slap punchers and glass chins? He should do well I guess as long as those guys don't try to hug him to death. :patsch

bad move on his part, being a full contact fighter takes a lot of time, not something you can pick up real fast unless your a gifted enough athlete (which Wolak clearly isn't)

I'm sad that some folks(even actual boxers sometimes) are being tricked by the Dana White hype machine.

He has some wrestling experience if I remember correctly. Maybe he wants to push himself, to see if he can hack it in a different sport. I wish him the best. The good thing about MMA is that a couple of losses don't ruin a career so if he has some early set backs he'll still be able to make a living at it.

He was a stand out wrestler in HS, and by default would have better hands than anyone in MMA. But he should have just stuck with boxing.

He doesn't have the skill set to compete for a championship in boxing, plus he would take more punishment. This way he can roll on the ground most of the time and actually be the more skilled stand up fighter.

you'd have a glass chin too if you fought with 4oz gloves.

That's true. He is immediately the best puncher in UFC.

If Holyfield was hit in the chin with 4 0z gloves by a sloppy arm punch,I seriously doubt he would go down.

The small gloves are one thing but the bad punching is another.
These guys go down all of the time form sloppy punches.

Because the money for a 5-10 fight pro in the UFC is greater than a 5-10 fight pro boxer.

MMA is more about athleticism than skills, while boxing needs equal amount of both to make it. You don't have to be a black belt in JJ, a Olympic caliber wrestler, or even a National GG level boxer. Just learn enough JJ to ward off the subs, learn enough striking defense to get the wrestling takedowns and a guy can be a top 10 contender.

Yeah kind of like when failed NFL player and former WWE play fighter Brock Lesnar won the UFC championship after only a little bit of wrestling experience.
You make a good point my friend.

Actually he was a college wrestling champ if I read correctly. But yes, with very little experience, he beat established MMA veterans with his size, wrestling and power. If he was still fighting today, he would perhaps be ranked 7-8.
