Interesting to note that after all his fights Dempsey seems to speak completely unaffected ... some fighters are just lucky.

I know both gentleman were far from their prime in that clip, but I couldn't help thinking that they wouldn't stand a chance against the Klitschko's.

Also I think Louis would beat Dempsey if they fought, both at their best. (24/25 as they suggested).

Welcome H to ESB, but be prepared to throw LOGIC under the table,as what you cite above...There are posters who read but BELIUEVE what they WANT to believe....As when a bull sees a red cape, they charge into the fray some posters when seeing the word "Dempsey", abandon all rationality
for the pleasure it gives them to denigrate an overated [to them] Jack Dempsey who according to their unbiasesd minds ,feel Dempsey was the grand dragon of the Klu Klux Klan, and a cruel viral racist...These people somehow know better than the thousands of ex fighters, as Sam Langford, Gene Tunney, Mickey Walker, Jack Sharkey, Max Schmeling etc and the great trainers and sports writers by the hundreds who voted him the greatest fighter of the heavyweight division in the 1950s, whilst Ray Arcel
called him the best he had seen until his death in 1994...Tell me whose case has more validity the Dempsey detractors on ESB EIGHTY FIVE years after his last fight or the multitude of boxing experts who saw him in HIS
    PRIME ?
As for Dempsey against Louis both at their peaks ? Most experts in Louis's reign picked Dempsey because of his violent quick starts, but THESE TWO are my favorite heavyweights and I remain neutral...:hi:

Burt excellent post as always. I will listen to a guy like Ray Arcel and what he had to say about Dempsey over some of the clowns on here.

Personally I would go with Dempsey over Louis for the fact Louis didn't like to be pressured or crowded and admitted as such. I know one thing it would be a great fight though one of the best Fantasy type fights in history for sure.

Thank you Rico...As pertaining to a fantasy bout between a prime Jack Dempsey and a prime joe louis, one thing always enters my mind...The ONE fighter who had the most similar style defensively to the prime Dempsey that Louis fought was Arturo Godoy...Godoy with his low crouching style, but sans Jack Dempsey's bobbing and weaving speed and punching power lasted a total of 23 rounds with the Brown Bomber, before Louis finally stopped the crouching Godoy in the 8th round of their second fight. Against a murderous short punching Dempsey, who by the way had a great set of wheels when needed, would create a great problem for Louis
were they to have met...No Arturo Godoy lasts 5 rounds with a Dempsey
    who loved in close battle...Cheers...

It's amazing to me that anyone would think either Klitcshco brothers would have any chance against Louis or Dempsey. How low have we gone? Both brothers are walking statues. Big and built like Hercules does not mean your a great fighter. Neither are great fighters.

Yes, a guy who has cleaned out the glamor division and kept it clean for 7 years is not a great fighter. But let's all hail the guy who won the crown, then cherry picked a few opponents before putting the crown in mothballs, all the while dodging his two best rivals... Yes, that makes perfect sense.

True Rico...Dempsey and Louis feasted on large dreadnought heavyweights who weighed much more than they...Those days a heavyweight was not necessarily handicapped by weight as today...what you gain in a weight advantage you lose in speed and mobility...Nat Fleischer who witnessed
all the heavyweights from about 1905 always insisted that a heavyweight
with the proper skills, was big enough at 195 pounds to tackle anybody....
A Jack johnson, Jack Dempsey and Joe Louis were all very strong men for their weight, and today against the battleships posing as heavyweights would have as Ray Arcel replied ,a "picnic" today ...Joe Louis and Dempsey were very STRONG men for their weight...Dempsey quite often after he kod very big men, would put his gloved hands under his victims armpits and lift them right off the canvas,on their feet, and Louis in a clinch with Primo Carnera [260] pounds lifted Primo up a few inches and deposited the
Ambling Alp a foot away from him...Strength, speed and leverage wins the day I believe....Cheers...

there is no evidence (that i have seen ) that Greb was desperate to challenge for the heavyweight title, nor is there any evidence of dempsey "ducking" greb. Because there is no film of Greb, people have somehow elevated him to some god like fighter who would have actually stood a chance at beating dempsey. This whole "dempsey ducked greb" is complete and utter nonsense. These same people who are attacking dempsey for not fighting greb would be criticising him for beating up a middleweight if they had actually fought.

There's literally a hundred articles out there with Greb stating his intentions to face Dempsey, proposals of the title bout being made, with Dempsey's management always finding a way out of it.

dmt, there is no one that revere's Harry Greb more than i do...No One... But i hade read in an old ring magazine aeons ago an article from a boxing writer [name escapes me now] saying that Greb told him that "after a few rounds in a regular bout Dempsey would "kill me"...i believe Greb mentioned 6-7 rounds...Of course Harry Greb wanted that bout, even believing this, as he would have earned a small fortune in that ONE bout...What would the Dempsey camp have to gain in this bout ? Nada..,,
If Dempsey did fight the MW Harry Greb and did ko him in the bout, people would scoff, " big deal, picking on a middleweight ". A no win situation for
the much maligned Manassa Mauler today primarily on ESB .
The fact remains that Jack Dempsey at his best was a GREAT fighter because he combined speed, two-handed power, an innate toughness, and a will to conquer never seen before in a heavyweight and seldom after, who beat everyone in his prime and aside from a Harry Wills as his No.1
contender ,would have been an odds on favorite to crush any man alive 1919-23 era... He DID sign to fight Wills once, but the maverick promoter
couldn;t come up with the remaining dough as there was legitimate
fears of possible riots that could occur following the fight as happened after the jeffries/ Johnson fight in Reno...New York boxing commission would NOT sanction such a bout which is a fact...was Harry Wills a victim of his times ? Hell yes...Was Dempsey a villian ? No sir...Harry Wills
never tarnished the reputation of Jack Dempsey thereafter...Wills after being stopped by Paolino Uzcudun and a prime jack Sharkey, retired and became a successful real estate business man in New York.
And Dempsey befriended John Lester johnson and George Godfrey years later when they were in dire financial straits, and became a much beloved
figure as a retired gentleman who conducted himself with utter dignity befitting a one time boxing legend...Let him rest I say...
