This weekend see's one of the biggest fights domestically for many years take place at the O2 Arena. It has all the qualities we look for in a match- Two capable champion, both big hitters and vulnerable and they fight for the REAL Cruiserweight World title.

But instead of boxing prime time on ITV1 where they should be- these two talented fighters find themselves competing on the 'back alley' channel Setanta.

Initially I was very pleased that Setanta were competing to show live boxing. I thought excellent- on top of our ITV and Sky coverage we're going to have someone who might be clever enough to snap up the big oversees fights for us purists.

Instead we have seen the following take place- Warrens continual shitty matchmaking has seen ITV lose interest in anything not featuring Amir Khan, Sky are uninterested in showing anything other then domestic stuff on a friday and the odd overseas show they pick up for a discount price like the Klitschko fight I slept through last weekend.

Setanta are a relatively new channel and their customer service reeks of ****. They have a no contract policy but in reality you are tied in for a quaterly contract in order to get a decent price. Additionally their LIVE boxing isn't.... Which pretty much illustrates the level of proffesionalism these guys have demonstrated so far.

The commentary is drab and the build up and advertising poorly put together. I just feel that this switch to Setanta for the big fights might be the final nail for boxing as a back page sport.

This weekend is ENGLAND VS WALES for an undisputed world title and their is no sense of national pride or interest in the papers. I just get that same 'hidden away' feeling that I used to from watching boxing on BBC1 grandstand.

Not been negative but this is how I feel...

i get setanta as part of my cable package as a free addition so for me i can't complain and though their coverage isn't remotely the best they have certainly come up with plenty of excellent fights recently.

Setanta though are showing many big fights from America...I don't think ITV were dishing out enough money to finance the biggest fights like JC Kessler etc.

Perhaps I'm been a bit harsh but just prefer seeing big fights on ITV.. Worth a discussion anyway.

You beat me to it. I was just about to open up a thread on the same thing.

We have little or no coverage of this fight on main stream tv, I guess they do not want potential viewers watching the fight instead of the **** they have on.

Our papers have had hidden articles about the fight but only a small amount of exposure.

The fight gets little reaction from your average person in the street. My family are all sport fans and pick up most of whats going on in sport but they have little idea of this fight. They are the exact people who would turn on and watch it if able or if the fight had been publicesed properly.

Warren has to take some blame for this fight having short comings. A potential classic has been hidden away on a small ppv channel that very few people are interested in. If the fight had taken place on ITV both guys could have been made stars.

It is also a shame that JC our best champion for a long time is an household nobody by being shown on Setanta.

Yes i'm sure a lot of people are going to be supporting either based on their personalk preferences but my point is a few years back the press would have ate this up.

Look at the coverage Benn-Eubank got.

IMO in terms of division supremacy Macca - Haye is actually more significant.

Without a shadow of a doubt.... FW has been piloting boxing for the last few years and despite giving us some brilliant nights he hasn't done the ground work for tomorrow. Lets just hope a new promotional outfit can take over.

It will be posted on Haye's myspace as the reason he no shows the fight. :hey

I am really excited about this fight and I know everybody else on this forum is but it is a real shame the fight is not shown on mainstream tv. The late start time is another possible KO for British boxing. Why **** us about so much.

It will be great to see what the final viewing figures are when all is said and done, especially in comparison with what could have been expected if the fight had been shown on ITV. Good to compare with the Froch vs Inkin fight, this one would have doubled anything that gets if it had been built up right. And sold to the right people.

    ITV have the best commentary:lol:

The public reaction to Calzaghe's demolition of Jeff Lacy demonstrated that the general public are interested in boxing, albeit in a fleeting way but it is the same for any sport that isn't football.

Watching a British champion battering a big American star about the ring got everybody talking about boxing for a while and made Calzaghe a household name.

Shame they followed it up with hyping up Amir Khan and showing heavyweight snore fests.
