I saw a brief film clip of John L. Sullivan in street clothes throwing some punches for the camera. I think it may have been filmed at the Johnson-Jeffries fight in 1910. John L 's feinting ability in this film is fun to study. He must have been over 50 at the time and much heavier than he was in his fighting days but he was still impressive.
Are you saying this was a feint? [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OwdHr1ZNDE4[/ame] It was a hail mary left hook, one of several that Jones had thrown throughout the round, which happened to catch Griffin flush on the chin. There would be no sense in backing up with your hands down from a left hook, unless you were Muhammad Ali (still didn't make sense though). Griffin simply misjudged the distance, the speed and his own capability to slip a Roy Jones left hook with his hands on his waist. This is a good example of a feint done by Roy Jones: [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=va-YF7eZS9U[/ame] 11:15 Those 6 inch jabs simply weren't getting through to Griffin in their first fight, which is why he abandoned it and leaped in with left hooks and overwhelmed him.
