I know his competition has been far from stellar so far but he looks the business to me. Just went and rewatched his last few fights and he looks so calm in the ring and the effect of having so many AM fights is apparent. He reminds me of Alvarez in the way his punches all seem heavy but more so and much more active. Great timing, patience and stays very solid hitting hard without overcommitting and getting wild. If his chin is as incredible as is suggested I think he can be a huge force at the weight (and SMW if hes willing to move up as he says). Proksa was a tough, awkward fighter and he looked completely out of his depth in there and GGG hardly broke a sweat. Plus the mix of body and head was good to see.

Would love to see him in with some of the other guys we have at MW I think Barker and Martinez would be the hardest fights as golovkin is hittable (probably due to his chin). Macklin and Chavez would be entertaining but I think he could take them. Anyone who wants to stand and fight this guy is going to have a long hard night in front of them.

What are peoples thought on this guy? Also whats the deal with his brother who was meant to be an outstanding fighter as well.

He's the real deal. Hope he doesn't wind up fighting out of Germany for easy paydays. He doesn't need to. Fighters are going to fear his power, he'll definitely unify if people don't dodge him. He's going to be a massive draw.

His punch form is sheer class, his balance is sheer class. He's educated with the pressure, from the get go he showed how fundamentals beat unorthodox skills such as Proska.

He placed his lead foot on the outside, pawed the southpaw jab down and came over with stiff jabs and used a beautiful left hook. The timing as you say is impeccable and also watch his short range work. The way he changes punches, reacts to the angle and is willing and able to through punches at differing angles where most would step off or around he doesn't need to. Turns the knuckle over as well, spiteful puncher.

Offensively he's supreme, Defensively though he's open to single shots. I think that's a major part of his game he needs to work on. Proska is a poor man's Martinez in a way. Before i continue this post let's big him up as well. What heart and desire and he was competitive as well, the rounds weren't exactly Golovkin just landing. Proska did land but he didn't have the power or strength to hurt this guy.

Now i mention Martinez because i feel his movement will ask the most questions of Golovkin. Golovkin's stance is wide, well balanced but wide because he wants extra leverage for power as Kellerman i think alluded to. Now that makes it slightly harder against movers like Martinez who are able to move, move and punch! at blink of a eye and land from different angles.

I have a feeling Golovkin would embrace the chase so to speak, i could see him putting very thoughtful pressure on Martinez but Sergio would enjoy success and it would be highly interesting to see how he takes Martinez punches seeing as he says he's never been hurt. I think that would be one heck of a fight, i can't call it right now. Maybe in two weeks time i could say a little more ;). Pick em' for me right now..

A top talent, very impressive display against a good fighter in Proska who can come again but will need time. That is a very heavy loss even though he lost with class and dignity. That sort of defeat hurts because you know there's no excuses, you just got beat by the better man. He'll probably be questioning his power, his style etc. But he shouldn't worry. Take the negatives as positives, he can change a few things, he still hits hard enough and with time can become a world champion.

    Golovkin vs Macklin = Fireworks.

    Lemiuex hits harder though, IMO.

He should stick to a division, moving up or down in weight means he'll never get to properly make his Mark on a division.

He reminds me of Kostya Tsyzu

    Scene this..

The guy hits like a hammer. I tried everything, but it did not work. You have to give him credit, because he had a good handle on the situation and it was an honor to meet him in the ring. Even though I lost every round, I wanted to fight on. [Early on] it seemed to me that I was resistant to punches, but eventually they caught up with me. For each subsequent start, I went out out with another plan, trying to surprise him, but he is really great," Proksa said.

"I'm going to take a bit of a rest. There is no reason for us to have avoided fighting him - and I think today I fought not only the best fighter in my weight class, but perhaps even in the pound for pound rankings."

:good great post Skills I was hoping you'd bring some of your technical knowledge to the thread. His poise is what impressed me the most he doesn't seem obsessed with his power trying to bomb people out but applies intelligent pressure (as you said). I agree about the single shots but thats a small hole but an important one if he's going to fight Martinez.

Regarding Proksa I agree completely he kept coming back never tried to shell up until the end and he did land but just didn't have enough. He threw some straights to the body as well which was nice to see (I love me some body punching) but nothing seemed to bother gennady. Hope he can rebuild and come back from this he's an entertaining fighter and in a good division for lots of top if not "elite" guys.

:lol: Yeah we have to wait a few weeks before we discuss the Martinez fight but I think that the way martinez seems to take rounds off could be his undoing against a fairly busy opponent with big power. I would like to see him in against Barker as well who has good movement albeit average power. I suppose we should also note that Pwilliams was noted for his iron chin before THAT ko so who knows.

There are good fights at MW at least for the time being and people seem to have started fighting each other so no rush to move up.
:thumbsup classy stuff from Proksa good luck to him

Nice to see Proksa be so gracious in defeat. Some spastics on here feel the need to hate him because of his nationality.

Last night confirmed what I've thought about Golovkin for a while. It's alright rating a guy highly when they face weak opposition but they can unfold when they face a good opponent, like the aforementioned Lemiuex did, but now I've seen him against a good opponent, it confirmed a lot of what I thought about him. Right now, I think he'd beat Martinez. The problem in that fight for Martinez is that he likes getting involved in a fight too much - maybe it's a pride thing, maybe he wants to put on a show or something else, I don't know, but Martinez doesn't shy away from a fight and that'd cost him against Golovkin. Just like Proksa, Martinez would be too easy to hit and I don't think anyone can withstand Golovkin's power unless they have a serious chin.

    GGG KO10 Martinez.

Terrific fighter. I'm excited to watch him again.

Proksa will have to convince himself that GGG is the best pound for pound in order to cope with the loss.

    He's probably not wrong though.

Although he hasn't mixed with great company as a pro we have to remember his AM credentials. Yeah its a different game and good AMs don't necessarily make good pros but he beat dirrell in the AMs he knocked out Bute. I think seeing how Martinez deals with JCC jnr will gives us a lot of clues about how he would do against Golovkin.

    This.:deal

I thought exactly the same thing when I watched the fight, I love his style and there is a real controlled menace about him that I loved about Tsyzu.

I thought Proksa was very brave and classy in defeat; I didn't think much of his attitude in the first Hope fight, but then again it was a bit of a nasty fight from both sides.

He showed real class against Golovkin even though it was clear from early on that he wasn't in the fight IMO.

I hope that Golovkin returns to Boxnation, I understand the Matchroom link that put this fight on Sky, but although I'm glad I got to see the fight I really don't care for delayed broadcast fights, they're just not the same.

Boxnation introduced me to Golovkin, and I'm sure I'm not the only one, and they have shown his last two fights; until Golovkin makes more of a name for himself I can't see Sky showing his fights live, at least with Boxnation you get to see the whole card and live.
