If this happens... - Aldo will be 22-1 - And 12-0 in Zuffa - A win over Edgar is a win over a current UFC p4p top 10 and proven elite level fighter - Further wins over Urijah Faber, Chad Mendes, Kenny Florian, Mike Brown, Mark Hominick, Cub Swanson, Jonathan Brookins & Manny Gamburyan - Former WEC fw champion - Current UFC fw champion Does this mean Aldo has already done enough in your eyes to be considered an MMA ATG, or would he still be some way off this status? :bbb
No, and for a few reasons. Jose Aldo is a great Featherweight, but could be fighting 10+ years from now. Anything can happen, and it's shortsighted to claim ATG status because he will have many, many more after Frankie Edgar.
I dunno if Edgars gonna put him over. I mean it can be argued he lost the first Penn Fight and lost the second Maynard fight, and of course he lost twice to Henderson.Thats four loses in his title "run". I think he has been extermly lucky with a couple decisions and because of that gets over rated. Does well in rematches though......
No doubt he has done a lot, but he can do much more. He will get ATG someday but not for the present. Best MMA Fighters
Aldo is only 25. That kinda scares me. He could potentially be fighting for the next 10 years. I already consider him an ATG, a win against Edgar would certainly solidify that. I'd also like to see him move up to 155 to see what he could do. Can you imagine him in there with Diaz, Cerrone, Bendo, Maynard? Gives me chills.
I think he already is. Cmon, he's so far ahead of his time that it's hard not consider him ATG. He doesn't beat people, he beats them up.
For me, his resume is not good enough yet to merit ATG status. He needs a win over a great fighter, he doesn't have that yet. Faber is very good, but he was not a great, and not at FW. Edgar is the proven real deal.
What's funny about that? Many people scored Edgar-Penn 1 for Penn. It was a very close fight. I'm sure I read that the punch stats point to a clear Penn win.
It's hard to say no when the sport is so young. Aldo Has raised the bar no doubt and will eventually go down as great. The fighters listed, only a couple I'd consider good enough wins to elevate someone's atg legacy, he has a long way to go. Edgar will be an excellent win if he can do it
I just see Aldo's stamina questioned. From glances I've had of Edgar he comes the full fight and that would trouble Edgar. Aldo could end the fight anytime or break him down brutally but gradually which I would prefer over a quick ko ala Mendes. Fun fight I hope the best man wins but I see Edgar giving him problems despite whatever outcome occurs.
