He has no particular desire to test himself against the very best, such as WBC light-heavyweight champ Roy Jones. Calzaghe added: "I'm not chasing after Roy Jones. Be honest, Roy Jones is a good fighter and I don't want tough fights, I just want big money. "I just want to make sure I never have to work again. I've got mouths to feed and that's the most important thing." http://www.thefreelibrary.com/Boxing...he.-a060444934 Joe talking about his son, prior to the Roy fight... Quote: "He had also spent the Jones build-up watching footage of Jones' glory years, when he was at his peak, on You Tube. "Connor was sobbing 'dad, he is amazing' and I tried to reassure him 'don't worry son, Jones isn't that good anymore.' http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/boxing/9164514.stm What fighter in there right mind would say thus?
I never liked Calzaghe, but at least he was honest about the Jones fight and to his credit he proved his worth against Kessler which, for me anyway, was the only really decent fight he ever had.
Joe Calzaghe made a career winning a paper WBO title(shot to **** inactive Eubank) and defended it against cans in Wales. Career best victories(out of 46 fights) = Kessler, Lacy and 44 year old Hopkins.
Oh dont forget Joe and promotoer that made big offers to Jones and Bhop when prime to fight in the ice rink! the cowards turned down the amazing offers ! Also Bhop just turned down new welsh WBO hero Nathan Cleverley for millions to fight in Wales also ROFL "dont worry son hes well past it "
I'm a Calzaghe hater, but is the above quote legit? The last time this was thrown here, I remember someone mentioning it was fake. But there have been other funny statements from him regard Jones.
A father trying to reassure his son before stepping in the ring? I'm sensing you don't have kids, or are just a **** father. Al
