What was his best win? Who didn't he get to fight that he should of? His best and worst performance at that weight?
Julian Jackson was his best win. He didn't really fight the best at middleweight. His reign was more of a showcase of his punching power than any true fighting ability. The division had opponents such as Roy Jones, Bernard Hopkins, Michael Nunn, Sumbu Kalambay, Mike McCallum, James Toney, Reggie Johnson, Steve Collins in it, and he fought none of them. Instead we saw him fight opponents such as Jay Bell and Gilbert Baptist. His worst performances were at the beginning of his career against Dennis Milton and Ralph Ward, where he ran out of gas trying to punch out his opponents early. His title win against Jackson was his best, it was a tough fight and McClellan was able to take Jackson's power before landing with his own.
I always wondered the reasoning behined him losing two fights back to back early on in his career...He knocked everybody out with ease then after ten fights he suddenly lost two fights on points but then went back to knocking everybody out again!! Im only going off boxrec as i was a little young at the time but gman was a animal in the ring and i have no doubt in my mind that a fully fit gerald destroys benn!!!!
McClellan was never fully fit because he shed a great amount of weight in order to be a middleweight. His stamina just wasn't up to par.
D only thing that prevented a heavily brain damaged McClellan from finishing Benn was that "Republican Party" French referee .
He was kind of overrated in my book. He was steered clear of the dictates in the division. He could hit, he lost to Dennis Milton, whom Julian Jackson knocked out cold.
As i recall Lamar Parks was coming into Geralds Orbit as a mandatory when Lamar had his career ending problems, now Lamar vs Gerald would have been a rather interesting affair
