hatton. he get's so underrated on these boards. loses to the two best fighters and all sudden he's not world class. he was quite competitive with floyd and although he lost many rounds he they were competitive rounds. pacquaio he just got iced. but still no shame in losing to these two fighters. he wasn't the great but he was pretty damn good.

i dont think anyone's doubting hatton is worldclass, but there are parallels in both their careers

Hatton. He was the man at 140. Kessler was a unified titlist, but never the man at 168. And past it KT at the end of his career is better than anyone Kessler beat, except maybe Froch. And I don't think Kessler won that fight anyway.

Part of your quote basically describes Kessler as well though.

Lost to two of the best fighters (Ward and Calzaghe not only being the 2 best SMWs in recent years, but also being 2 of the best active fighters around when Kessler fought them...we just didn't quite know it at the time with Ward). He was quite competitive with Calzaghe, won about 4 rounds. Ward...he was outclassed. No real shame in losing to those two fighters. He wasn't great but he was pretty damn good.

very true. but kessler didn't get shitted on like hatton did. maybe because he didn't get koed. but also take into account ward wasn't on the pound for pound list, calzaghe was on it during the time he fought kessler but not as high as floyd and pac was when they fought hatton. and i always knew ward was special and he'd beat kessler. maybe it's because i'm from oakland as well so i was thinking with my heart. that fight won me huge money. can't make much on ward these days anymore. just waiting for the moment idiots think golovkin might fight ward and make golovkin the favorite, and i can quick up a few extra bucks.

Agreed in that Kessler never had a victory of the same magnitude of Hatton's win over Tszyu. However, I think Kessler remained at a higher level for longer.

It is very close, but I think even having the better single victory, Kessler might get a slight edge for me.

Don't think they're most recent fights in the past few weeks affect their legacy in any way, but felt like bumping this anyways.

    :huh

I thought it was a very close comparison. Why do you think it's such a wide gap? And this is from a strictly boxing perspective (meaning, not getting bonus points for bringing 30k fans from across the pond to the US).
