Broner is the future of boxing they never expected Broner to do those numbers it will be interesting to see what his next purse is
1,3m? Isn't that quite bad considering they had a face off, 24/7 and a Klitschko-fight added? I mean nobody even knew whether the Broner-card was on until the last minute and that was a terrible card.
The thing with HBO is that there were probably casuals watching this who wouldn't buy the PPV. It might've converted a few people to the bandwagon. Ward has a good thing going in Oakland, he should box on HBO/Showtime without a PPV and continue to build a following until a major, Vegas quality fight could happen. I don't want to buy PPVs of this guy fighting people he can clearly outclass.
good for ward as long as everyone know that dawson was ****ed from that weight. that was not the dawson at 175 that was kicking ass he was shell of himself that night. so i cant give ward the credit everyone else does. he gets some but not as much as everyone else gives him.
Ward is largely unknown in the US outside of Oakland. In plenty of other countries, a boxer with Ward's amateur credentials and professional record would be a national hero. However, in the US, boxing is a niche sport. People won't pay attention just because a guy is a good fighter. Fighters need to have some kind of large and fanatical ethnic following, movie star good looks, a personality that draws people in/pisses people off enough to want to see them lose (Mayweather) or devastating KO power against elite opposition in order to garner attention.
Pretty disappointing numbers imo.... Ward is considered by most to be P4P #2, before this fight both he and Dawson were top 10 P4P. 2 of the top 10 boxers in the world who've been in top level fights for over 3 years did worse numbers than Broner vs a C level fighter.....the same Broner who has still yet to fight a top opponent and hasn't done **** all in boxing yet. Not good.
