David Haye Beats Some Bum From Wales

He does only have 21 fights, so I wouldn't call him a seasoned veteran yet. Propsect in the HW division might be accurate.

But back to what you originally said, up and comers aren't seen as World class that quickly.

No one I've read has been touting Haye as "Superman". The man has flaws, like a suspect chin that Mormeck showed in their fight together, but the man comes to fight. There is a great reason Haye has knocked out all but one of the fighters he's beat. He is a heavy-hitting powerhouse. Enzo is good fighter, just not on Haye's level. The Welshman will probably have the WBO title or some other strap around his belt around the time Haye has claimed one (or more) of his own at heavyweight.

 

As usual with message boards I think the truth is somewhere in the middle between the overblown huggers and the over critical haters. Haye definitely is a great prospect at the HW division, but that is all he is at the HW level, a great prospect. When Holyfield made the jump from Cruiser to Heavy, he was even more hyped (deservedly so) but was none the less a prospect before beating Michael Dokes and then he was considered a true contender.

As a fan of the sport I would much rather see Haye remain at Cruiserweight and fight both Cunningham and O'Neil Bell due to the fact that both would bring an interesting challenge to Haye. I think it would be much more exciting to see a TRUE unified champ defend against the top two or three guys that have a legit chance to beat him before he moves on to HW, but that is how it has always been at the Cruiserweight level. Such as the cases of Holyfield, James Toney, Jirov, J.C. Gomez, etc. Too bad for us though.

IMO Haye will move to HW and look fantastic against 2-3 borderline contender types that will be closely scrutinized to make sure they don't present that much of a threat, but still have some name recognition. He will then go in against one of the top 4 guys that have a belt and get starched early.

 

I found that interesting as well, especially since Haye is more aware of what Flores is capable of since they were sparring partners.

 

He also beat a heavyweight ranked 11 by WBC last year.
