Of course Jnr was able to cut the ring off with Roach. Anybody can against a man with Parkinsons. If Jnr couldn't do it in sparring there was no way he was going to do it against Sergio.

Roach needs to step away from top level training. His illness is getting the better of him.

Bottom line is, Chavez did not have the style, the technique or the speed to beat Martinez. I think he did what he could, but couldn't find Martinez, as his feet were too slow, before he could set him himself to throw Martinez was no longer there. I don't care what Roach says, no version of Chavez was gonna win that fight.

The last half of the 12th tells us Chavez had the ability to win and win big. He was not prepared to do what it would take to do that earlier though.

Poppa Chavez should of took over after roond 1 and stepped in the ring, he probably would of done a better job than his son.

    The truth.

And that's why I was disappointed in his performance. Martinez did give him opportunities to throw and land. As early as the second round, even. It was then that Chavez needed to invest downstairs and drown Martinez later on. But he didn't have the urgency to do it.

Chavez was beating his ass only cos Sergio was physically compromised in his hands and legs yet he still managed to fight Chavez off him.

If Chavez Jr had opened up more on Martinez early he might have caused him trouble, but it's also likely he would have just gotten countered badly and stopped by a fresh Martinez. Jr was far more defensive than usual in this fight because he did not want to taste that kind of power.
