Do you think the cycling helped Martinez to gain power in his punches?

    There's a lot of benefits to exercising your legs, and I heard Tyson used to cycle for an hour on a stationary bike to help build his legs up. Is there any correlation between Martinez' cycling training and his punch power, and endurance?

    Endurance and conditioning, definitely.

    Not so sure about punching power though, especially if he is cycling over long distances. If he was adding explosive sprints in to his cycling, then I guess it wouldn't do his explosiveness any harm. However, no really significant increase in punching power would occur IMO.

    Leg training is very ****ing gruelling. Cycling at high speeds can cause high lactic acid build up and increase testosterone. I'm not saying there is a correlation, but leg training can be very beneficial.

    Yes, very beneficial to endurance. You would not see a significant increase in punching power due to cycling, whether it be cycling over long distances, cycling at high speeds, or doing maximum effort intervals on a bike.

    There are not many other ways to improve punching power other than improved technique, increased handspeed and explosiveness.

    At most, it allows you to sustain your punching power for longer in to the bout.

    I was always led to believe he cycled because of his bad knees,but I'll tell you what I firmly believe;
    His strong legs were the reason he got through that last round and recovered well from the knockdown.
    Whether it's been forced on him or not,cycling is working for him.

    he also played football until 20( correct me if I'm wrong) and it strengthens the legs quite a lot, a bit like cycling

    Well leg strength imo does help with power. I trained with my legs sore, half my power was zapped. Came back when I was completely healed, it sounded like a machine gun when I hit the pads. I'm sure it did help him, the guy does know how to transfer the weight onto his hands even when he's moving and punching.

    I cycle quite a bit. It definitely helps with cardio but doesn't hurt the ankles and knees like running. As a result, his 37 year old legs are probably much fresher than a runner's.

    The key to throwing a good punch is a solid foundation, so yes, having strong conditioned legs helps.

    I would say that regular cycling helps more with balance and leg coordination.
