Do you think the cycling helped Martinez to gain power in his punches?

I would say so yes, strong leg muscles are underrated for a number of reasons

Very true. I thought it was common knowledge how important legs are in punching power. If arms were as important as the common fan thinks then arm punches wouldn't be useless :tired.

What you seen in the Martinez vs Chavez fight is called footwork. :D

But I guess as long as you are landing more punches round by round and being hit less than you hit your opponent it is a good way to win. :yep

Putting your legs in the punch puts power in it.

Cycling will not increase or give you any significant increase in punching power. It will have it's benefits for strength, conditioning and endurance reasons, but it will not increase punching power.

Having strong legs or putting you legs in the punches does not equate to punching power. Both are factors, but it is not the be all and end all. Some people just have good/great punch power, some will never have that power...no matter how much cycling they do.

    LEG STRENGTH = OVERALL POWER

You build your legs, and your Testosterone and Growth Hormone levels go up.

People avoid training legs because most, if not all, find them extremely hard to do.
But it is those individuals that train them, really train them...and I'm talking about pushing past the exhaustion and pain to get that extra rep or two in that that makes the difference.
You don't just work them out, you go all out and beyond. And that not only builds the muscle, but it builds your Mental Strength.

Interesting enough, Alex Ariza believes leg strength is key for a boxer to take a Punch. Not only for the initial impact, but also in the recovery specifically.

Endurance yes, power not really, his is coming from speed not planting of feet.
