Mikkel Kessler (45-2, 34 KOs) will challenge Brian Magee (36-4-1, 25 KOs) for the WBA Super-Middleweight World Championship at Jyske Bank BOXEN in Herning, Denmark on December 8.

Tickets will go on sale at BILLETnet/Ticketmaster on Monday, October 1, at 10 am. “I look forward to fighting in Herning again,” the Viking Warrior said.

“The atmosphere was fantastic last time when I fought Carl Froch. The fans made the difference that night, their support really lifted me to one of my greatest victories. With their help, I will become world champion again on December 8.”

Kessler was ungraded to Super Champ right before he fought Ward.

Oh and it's for the Interim title. Balzsay is the WBA Regular Champ.

Not really excited about this one! Waste of fight for Kessler. This is all about milking the danes! Even the title is bogus!

It's a good stay busy fight vs a concensus top 10 SMW. What's the problem with this fight.

Theyre both up there in age, and both vying for a shot at Ward, Froch/Bute winner, or Abe.

    Good fight IMO.

Kessler vs Abraham would be huge in Europe. Maybe bigger than Kessler vs Calzaghe.

This really does highlight how weak this era of the SMW division is.
I remember undefeated prime Magee, being put down 4 times and beaten by shot R Reid, yet in this era he pushes Froch and is now lined up to be meeting old past best Kessler for a WBA regular shot.
Im a fan of Kessler and Magee who I never rated has started to grow on me a bit, but both are old SMWs and Kessler had his eye trouble where I wonder if he could ever be the same again.
Magee was once scheduled to fight Calzaghe in what was seen as a massive mismatch as a stay busy fight for Calzaghe, but M Veit the then higher rated WBO int SMW champs team put a stop on the fight and Veit would have been made full champ, so the fight fell through.

Kessler should be a stoppage winner in around 6 I would guess

How would it be bigger than 2 undefeated champs rated 1 & 2 in the division?
Do you think they would draw over 60000?

Depends where they hold it. Kessler and Abraham both have the support of their nation.

I'm saying that in their European region, it'd be bigger. Not in the grand scheme of things Bailey.

Kessler - Abraham will probably only happen if one of them gets beaten again.

No. It would be big - certainly. Very big.

But not bigger than Calzaghe vs Kessler.

That fight was between the two undisputedly best in the division in the world.

They hold the record for largest attendence.

Kessler vs Abraham would be big, but not THAT big.

No, Sauerland has confirmed that the fight will be for the regular strap. Balszay will be stripped for not making a defence in due time.
Magee, as Interim champ, was given the opportunity to fight for the regular title against an opponent chosen by him. The opponent should be ranked in the top 10 (or 15??) by WBA.

Here is a transcript of my Twitter conversation with Kalle & Nisse Sauerland:

@SauerlandBros: ......WBA Super Middleweight World Championship : Magee v Kessler, early December - venue in Denmark to be announced shortly! Kal

@docjesper: @SauerlandBros Will this be for The vacant regular WBA-strap, which Karoly Balszay has failed to defend, or Magee's interim title?

@SauerlandBros: @docjesper not for the interim, for the full strap....
