Except a bit dumber looking. Slack-jawed. And puffier (although that could well be from all the hits he just took )

Stylistically, couldn't be more different. :yep

David Carmona vs. Ariel Gonzalez, 6 rounds @ super flyweight

 

Crosstown rivalry. Both local boys.

 

Round 1

Carmona touches gloves with Gonzalez. After the quick ceremonial gesture, it's all business. Carmona begins to jab sharply to head and body while circling. BIG RIGHT CROSS puts Gonzalez down in a daze, early in the round. He beats the coutner and starts to trade jabs with Carmona. Gonzalez extends his long leg past Carmona's and tries to slug with him, maybe thinking he can get him tripped up out of alignment. Both miss. Gonzalez steps back and jabs down at the much shorter Carmona. Flush up-jab to the face by Carmona, jolting Gonzalez. A minute left in the round. Gonzalez falls in with an uppercut and then takes a few scattered slices to the face. Carmona leans back and dodges them. Gonzalez comes flailing in with his right hand wound up from above, and gets counter hooked in the jaw. Carmona takes a lead right, rolling back with it and just missing another counter hook.

Round 2

Carmona inches back, letting Gonzalez approach on his long spidery legs with a jab pumping out all over the map. Carmona is looking to rip him down to size with a counter hook, but a bit too obvious about it. Gonzalez is slow to move in. Gonzalez slaps down a Carmona jab out of the air with his right glove descending. Combo by Gonzalez sliding forward, all blocked or dodged by leaning away. Carmona catches another double jab on his glove and ducks a right. Uppercut and slashing combo by Gonzalez falling in. Carmona parries and jabs. Carmona is utilizing something akin to a shoulder roll now. Carmona dodges left as Gonzalez drops a couple of gangly shots, and hooks the body. Gonzalez overreaches with a 1-2 and Carmona bats his arms down. Right hands over the top by Carmona.

Round 3

Gonzalez is floating a jab and chopping with his right arm on the way in, very predictably trying to dust Carmona from above. Carmona catches him at the end of a stiff jab. Carmona is circling, keeping away from the ropes, and whipping up left hooks at the head of Gonzalez but not fully committing and so falling short. Carmona is giving the seemingly light-hitting Gonzalez lots of respect here. Carmona leads with rights to the body, then brings one up top from outside. Constant movement by Carmona. Gonzalez walks into a jab trying one of his own. High hook by Carmona misses. Another crashes into Gonzalez's jab. Finally Carmona lands a hook, punctuating the round.

Round 4

Gonzalez jabs into Carmona's guard. More throwaway jabs by Gonzalez, pitching them while walking forward but keeping his body tilted back safely and gloves up, wary. With reason. Big right hand by Carmona, and Gonzalez is down again. Gonzalez is now in full retreat as Carmona seeks him out with high hooks, almost coming up off his feet. BIG RIGHT HAND BY CARMONA! Gonzalez careens against the ropes and falls, flat on his back, unconscious, not moving!! :scaredas:

Uh, ****.

Several minutes and Gonzalez isn't responding to smelling salts or other measures taken by ringside medical staff to revive him. They pick his arm up and it just drops limp.

Now they've wedged what appears to be a small burlap bag under the base of his neck to elevate his chin.
