Why does calzaghes resume get bagged, but roy jones gets a pass?

Discussion in 'World Boxing Forum' started by Phill-Mitchell, Sep 28, 2012.

  1. When 46 tried and 46 were dominated?

Jones has a dreadful resume and ducked Punchers like the plague, and considering he has the worst chin in boxing, having been brutally ko'd cold numerous times, we can see why.

So what issues this biased crap against super Joe?

Joe stayed in Wales... Had he fought outside of Europe earlier with his skills, he would have been a superstar in my opinion... Roy had the backing of HBO & was well known, not to mention the olympics...

Joe was DENIED the opportunity to fight in the Olympics.

Frank ****** protected him as an investment, same as he did to Hatton.

    Hopkins wouldn't face Calzaghe.

RJJ's resume is better, and what punchers did RJJ avoid? Serious crap analysis from both of you, JackJohnson and PhilM.

This should not even be posted. RJJ was on another level. Joe would have been demolished by any belt holder at HW.

no he didnt stay in wales, he fought englishman in england, like eubank, when he was practiaclly unknown, that would have been a more hostile environment than roy jones ever faced.

Roy Jones fought a prime Toney and a young Hopkins. Those two wins alone are FAR better than any win Joe Calz has on his resume.

I think RJJ would have demolished any fighter around that weight, any fighter in history. He gets a pass because he's an American. Maybe if Joe had fought in America a lot more during his prime he would be appreciated a lot more. Only the casual fan can honestly deny his skill as a boxer.

...and Pistal47 is right, Toney and Hopkins is better than anything on JC's resume (except maybe Peter Manfredo Jr :))

Because RJJ was American and only fought in America.

    Double standard at it's worst.

You are one of the worst posters on this forum. RJJ fought plenty of punchers, all because you started watching boxing last year doesn't make this any less true. Merqui Sosa, David Telesco, and Julio Gonalez were both big punchers... Toney was a great puncher at MW/SWM, Tarver has pop, and Ruiz was had good pop given his punch percentage at the time and the fighters he hurt/KD before his Jones fight (this is a natural heavy weight who had 24+ lbs on Jones btw).

Jones has a lot of good victories, some great. If Calzaghe had RJJ resume, it would be light years ahead of the one he has now.

    Hopkins
    Toney
    Hill
    Reggie Johnson
    Tarver
    Woods
    Griffin
Ruiz (which is a good win)

This is not to mention fighters like Gonzalez, Sosa, Jorge Fernando Castro, older Mike McCallum (equivalent to old Hopkins), Eric Lucas, Richard Hall, Eric Harding, and Thulani Malinga -- all being good contenders, one being a ATG, and many of the others having become legit belt holders or beat HOF fighters.
