If Manny can make 140 easily why is this fight with Jmm not at 140 for his title?

I believe Jose Suliaman and Manny had a difference of opinion once when Manny was WBC Lightweight Champion and he fought Oscar Delahoya.

Suliaman wanted a small percentage of Manny's earnings from that fight even though it was contested at 147 two divisions above mannys title at the time.

 

Because at 140, JMM wins easily. :yep

JMM has never weighed in above 142 for any fight ever. Pacquiao weighed in at 147 for his last fight, so a fight at 147 is clearly to his advantage at this point. :deal

 

Its an interim title isn't it? Whats the point in paying $$$$ for an interim title?

 

to be fair, you got a point, would be to win a belt i suppose.

This weight is better. they're both the same size, neither fighter will have to worry about weight, they can both just train.

Who cares about a paper belt, it wouldnt make either of therm the oficial champ.

 

So Marquez will be slower and Pac can have a size advantage

 

I imagine it's because he knows he's fighting a guy his own size, and making weight won't be an issue.

It should benefit both guys.

 

I would love to see this at 140.

However, Manny can't make 140 "easy" anymore.
He weighed in at the full 147lbs last time around against feather fisted Bradley and has obviously deteriorated in the stamina department.

He would have to drastically alter his training regimen and perhaps affect his stamina even more to make 140, something I don't think his camp will be willing to do.
They want Pac to be as comfy sa he can during training.

No matter what people say, Pac is now at the twilight of his career as a WW.
Kinda like Duran with the soft physique during his last few bouts at SMW.
Everybody who wishes to challenge Pac must go to Pac's weight, not the other way around.

 

For the record, didn't Marquez weigh more than Pacquaio on fight night? I think the weight benefits both guys because they both probably walk around 140-150 anyway.

 

If Manny has out grown his 140 weight and can not go down but now comes in at 145-150 can't he come in at 154 to fight Cotto if he wanted to.

The issue isn't what he weighs. He only weighed in at 144.5 for the Margarito fight at 150. The issue is what weight he's willing to let Cotto come in at, and he wasn't willing to let Cotto come in anywhere above 147, which is where their negotiations for a rematch ended.
