Who else in the world can break their neck in a car accident and come back and win a word title? 50-10-0, 30 knock outs. [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=75HWcjc91dY[/ame]
Vinny is a warrior, if I was a boxer I'd enter the ring to this [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=byk_5Sc1wEM[/ame]
Tough as nails, big heart and always in shape. Another thing about Vinny, when he lost he offered no excuses.
I remember when he first turned pro and I followed his fights on ESPN. I said to myself, "wow, what a match it would be if he fought Camacho some day" He did and I was there to witness it. I am a fan of his, but come on, the halo? Yes, he got into a accident, but this was more promotion for that JMW title fight. A neck injury is a very sensitive and you can't throw around all that weight he was doing with the halo on. Also, he was suspected of using steriods too. I actually know Dana Rosenblatt and that rematch for him that he won was like a world title for him.
He's human like anyone else. I use to train with him occasionally at Rhode Island boxing and he would always go out of his way to help and encourage the amateur fighters there. Saw him at the airport on his was to the Chavez-Manfredo fight and he talked with everyone, signed autographs and took pictures with all who asked. He's a good guy, but he makes mistakes like everyone else. Those things get magnified because of his ring persona.
The neck injury came after winning the WBA junior middleweight title and he lost it because he was unable to defend it. I was at the Delete fight, ringside the the second Rosenblatt fight and saw him fight live on at least 15 other occasions including his farewell fight where Roberto Duran came to support him and was in the crowd throwing punches trying to tell Vinny what to do. Funny stuff!
