Marco Huck is from Serbia. It was never a part of the Sovjet Union and Felix Sturm is German. Born and raised here.

If I'm not mistaken, Mao banned boxing for being "too Western" during the Cultural Revolution. They've only resumed boxing since the 80s or so; starting from nothing to having Olympic medalists in ~30 years is an accomplishment in itself. Doesn't hurt that you have a gigantic pool of athletes from which to choose.

A lot of it is to do with culture and what people are brought up into and what they want to strive for.
Thats why figures like Khan can be mad influential. Many young ****s now will be interested in boxing and youngsters may take it up and a new pool of talent awaits for ****stanis..

It can just take one superstar in a sport to have an entire demographic spark up and create new champions
