How much credit should be given to fighters who mimic their favorite fighters?

Not at all.(detract from)
Stand at a heavy bag and try to pull off a hook with your hands at your waist,see how it goes.
If you can get to the top using tips from the greats,you're doing just fine.

I think everyone has their own style anyway, for example only certain fighters can pull of the 'Ali style'

 

Everyone mimics other fighters, so no credit at all.

 

If they pull it off and are successful, great.

If they end up getting the **** beat out of them, ala Proksalol, they deservedly should be laughing stocks.

 

if there able to successfully mimic their favorite fighter like Frazier with Armstrong that's fine. If their trying to be another Mayweather when there no where near the same skill level they should probably do what works best for them instead.

 

everyone mimics another fighter, every fighter is influenced by those they loved watching who came before them so no credit since every boxer in history falls into this category whether they're good or ****.

Martinez Jones Jr ???, Martinez is not very difficult to find, and Jones was virtually impossible to hit early days, Martinez is pressure based, Jones reflex based ???

 

You need to mix it up, have your own style but be able to mimic someone if the situation calls for it or just for fun.

 

Who cares? Many fighters you figure are influenced by fighters they liked and probably "mimic" them to an extent.

Ali admired Ray Robinson, and was influenced by him in both his choice of trunks and in some ways, his style. He would say things like "this is how Ray used to do it" in reference to some of his moves.

It's the end result what matters.

 

James Toney "mimicked" Walcott, Moore, and Charles.

Floyd Jr. "mimicks" his uncle and father.

Tyson said he tried to fight like guys such as Armstrong, Duran, and Dempsey.

 

Don George mimics his favourite fighter, Tony Ayala, Junior, I hear.

 

I give credit, the problem is most guys who mimic a great fighter never are near as great.

 

I give credit because they are successful. It doesn't matter if they try to mimic or copy a certain fighter's style. If they are good because of it why not.
