DeGale is getting messed up when he steps into world class.

He drops his hands everytime he throws a shot, he's wide open to counters.... Anyone with a bit of speed & decent feints will have a field day against him.

He still doesn't turn his hooks over enough either... These are basic things that he should have nailed down by now.

He does have heart, and a decent chin but for me, he is technically flawed. Very flawed

    He's a contradictory mish-mash of styles.

One minute he's running around the ring like Mo Farah on heat, the next he's stationary on the ropes eating uppercuts.

His confidence is shot and it'll take some building up, I think he needs a trainer who'll break him down and show him the errors of his ways.

Why is he dropping his hands?
Why doesn't he develop a jab?
Why does he move away when he's got an opponent in trouble?

    etc

If he's willing to do that he can improve and move further. If he isn't and continues as he is, he'll win as many as he loses at European level.

he made the fight harder than it had to be ,why would he do that ?

he still goes in with his hands down , spends to much time on the ropes .A faster more concise puncher would have had him out of there

    1) he wasn't that good to begin with
    2) his trainer is utterly useless and isn't working on his many bad habits and flaws
    3) he's not far from his level, that's all.

Was it just me or did the ring look really small?

I thought Degale did okay. His opponent was actually really quite impressive also. A good euro championship fight, exactly what I would hope for at that level. There's loads for Degale to improve on. I'd like to see him molded into a cagey, defensive operator. The scores were ridiculous yet again in a British hosted fight.

He looks good at times, but my god imagine the french kid could have hit ?, and james with his hands down and all bruised looking from a so so puncher.a puncher will KO him imo

Ah, the old "he wasn't that good to begin with"

Actually mate I really have to disagree on that, I think he is a talent but number 2 is the real reason, he hasn't been taught **** all, he's getting by on raw ability and nothing else.

Yeah the ring did look really small and the ropes seemed loose. A couple of times I thought James might fall through them. When he was off the ropes and moving there flashes of how good he can be. He just didn't seem able to sustain it. I thought Richhie Woodhall was generous towards James with his comments during the fight and in the post fight interviews.

Jim McDonnell must be very frustrated with how De Gale is performing. Perhaps a change of trainer is needed but I don't think we'll see that until James loses again.

He still a Euro champ but away from home he may not get a nod in a tight contest the way he did in this one.

The mid fight interview with Mick was great entertainment. I could see him thinking about how much this was going to cost him.

Oh did anyone catch the 'futures bright' from James at the end of his interview.

DeGale has no jab & cannot turn a hook over, he has appalling punching technique. Defensively his head movement is erratic & exaggerated, he doesnt have the radar or the reflexes to make his style successful.

He might look great in flashes but essentially, DeGale is just a talented idiot with an equally stupid trainer.

Groves would beat him again & more comfortably.

It's easy to blame Jim, but DeGale is flat-footed because he just is. He slaps because that's what he does. His trainer could correct some of the mistakes he makes with foot position and establishing a style, but other than fast hands, what makes you think he's a talent still?

In all those years as an amateur, surely he should have developed a jab and learned how to turn a hook over properly?

I still think Degale has the potential to be a top, top fighter. The biggest contributing to this dire performance was ring-rust. Let his cuts heal up and come back in February.

When I see Degale, I see a fighter who spends a lot of the fight in gear 1. When he does up the gears, like the glimpses we saw yesterday, when he let his hands go, we see what he's capable of. I thought the same against Groves, some judges will just pick the opponent.

He needs to step his work rate, move around more and let his hands go more often. He has a decent chin and respectable power to mix it at world level, but getting tagged so often like that against people like Dirrell, Bika, Froch would get him TKOed.

The French lad was awful, he looked like someone who's just put the gloves on for the first time, Degale is so average.

DeGale is technically flawed, very flawed.

He can't even do the the basic fundamentals. He drops his hands everytime he throws a shot & he still doesn't turn his punches over.

He has talent yes, but he'll get brutally exposed at world level
