All the supposed concern for Brandon's health after boxing is just passive resistant speech. It is a futile attempt to hide irrational hatred for Rios. Brandon is no more going to end his career with brain damage than any other boxer. In fact, Brandon gets hit with less clean punches per round than most pro boxers. His defense is subtle but it is a tight defense. He rolls with most of the clean punches and he completely slips the rest. He is one of the most complete inside fighters in the business today.
Bam Bam is a warrior, but his career looks to be of the "burn bright, burn fast" variety. I was sitting in row H last Saturday night, and he was getting hit with some bombs. He shows the ability to slip at times, but not consistently.
Rios is amazing. He has the skills to be a safer fighter but he likes the excitement he brings. He'll rely more on his defensive skills when he gets a bit older.
Incredible chin on Rios no doubt, but the kid does take some serious bombs. Alvarado was snapping his head back before getting TKO'd.
Flatlander. I agree he gets hit and has better defense than most here give him credit for. Still.... What do you think of the matchup with Pac if it happens? Pac is pretty good at the in and out.
I have him behind only Floyd Mayweather in terms of defensive ability. Brandon is defo the slickest Mexican in the game.
I would never bet against Pac but Manny did say that Margartito hurt him several times during their fight. Brandon is better at in fighting and he hits harder than Margarito so Rios will always fight a good exciting fight and will always have a puncher's chance.
You can't be serious. Brandon himself knows his style is probably not very healthy, he even admits to wanting to be an Arturo Gatti type fighter.
Serious as I can be. Boxing itself is a potentially harmful sport. As are most other contact sports. My point is that many of the people posting these comments and those sort of questions are not interested in Rios' present or future health but are instead only interested in downgrading his skills and hating on him as a person. I never heard people saying things like this about Erik Morales or Castillo in the early careers. Or Gatti or Ward for that matter. Rios takes a good shot and comes back with better shots of his own. Some day the wear and tear of any sport will take it toll on the body. This is why the sports are normally for the young. As a trainer, coach, referee and as a man you loves and respects his boxers I worry about all of their healths but I don't see Rios taking anymore abuse or flush shots than anyother boxer with his style. Brandon likes to get in and take shots to land his shots. He has learned how to do this without getting hurt or getting hit cleanly. Brandon does not get into a fight if there is no danger of him getting hurt or getting hit. This is why he never got into the Abril fight like he normally does. There were no real threat of getting hit or hurt. He was flat emotionally for that fight. Erik Morales got hit with more flush shots in one 12 round fight than Brandon has in his career.
Where were you the other day when I was taking abuse for pointing out Abril's punches may have been clean but they were not effective, hence the scoring of two of the judges.
