It's a tough question. Wladimir and Vitali are making millions, they are heavyweight champions. Isn't the heavyweight the premier historic division of boxing? So where ever the heavyweight champions are, boxing is? Or this have changed? So is the USA still the center of boxing? Or is it shifting? Have it already shifted? Bute fight in front of 20k fans, Ward fights in front of 8,000. David Haye fought in front of 30,000 fans.
In order of "who is the best," there have been several recent threads on this listing number of current titlists, etc. It's got to be in order: USA Mexico Japan UK Philippines
With regards prestige, yes its still the centre and always will be IMO, i love to see a British fighter fighting in big fights in Vegas etc more than seeing them fight here. With regards crowds or quality of boxers (and their out of ring entertainment factor) then the USA probably isnt the centre anymore, in that regard the UK is in a very healthy state right now.
In some divisions Americans are still at the top like Bhop and at This content is protected Sad Glass Jawson. However, British fans have a different mentality so love to pack into the stadium and enjoy a great atmosphere. I was at Haye Chisora and it was a fantastic atmosphere it has to be said. Americans just don't like to pack stadiums so they sell much more PPV in the states. So if the boxer wants a real presence Britain and Europe are better. However, there is still more cash to be made in Vegas Mega fights
It's a tough question, I certainly think it's slipping Heavyweight (which IS the blue riband division) is being DOMINATED by europeans who are packing 50-60,000 people fight in, fight out, as well as stars in other divisions coming through 1 olympic medal from two olympics is really bad for USA unbeaten american champions facing each other like Ward and Dawson or Bradley and Alexander are selling pathetic amount of tickets Manny Pacquiao is the biggest star in boxing, a Philo The next gen of top americans, Ward, Broner and... er other guys are boring defensive fighters, who are not going to be crossover stars or PPV sellers of course the yanks are going to get offended and start puffing their chests out and giving it the "USA USA USA" lark, but on the face of it, it's slipping.
go the stereotype :good in terms of fighters, we may not be but as long as the big networks over here are involved then it will be, of course
More than half of champions today, overwhelming majority of champions are American, Puerto Rican, Cubab or Mexican. So yes America is still the center.
How is the UK in a healthy state when your best fighter Froch got taken to school by Andre Ward with one hand. And your next generation of fighters ala Degale and Brook are struggling with jouneymen.
Mayweather is the biggest star in boxing you glass toed british fraud. USA- 19 titles UK- 3 titles Nuff said
