Hearns. I've always been fans of the freaks of boxing. Fighters that are huge for their weight class or possess unbelievable power... Hearns had both of those.
For different reasons, my favourite boxers are Holyfield - never seemed to be the favourite in any HW fight of his, yet kept winning. Also, he never ducked a dangerous opponent- Tyson, Lewis, Moorer, Bowe etc. Nice bloke too, met him recently enough. RJJ - Athleticism like I've never seen, thrilling to watch. Benn - Great bloke, great fights, great fighter. Also - Hagler - was a bit too young at the time, but I've seen plenty of his fights in the years since. Legend.
terry norris wonderful mix of everything. great boxing skills great puncher great on the back foot great on th einside. amazing jab. very slick he had everything....except a solid chin. but to his credit if he got tagged he would fight back harder than ever.
Muhammed Ali - The greatest! Carlos Monzon - Hell of a fighter Current : Mikkel Kessler - Class act as boxer and his personality
Floyd Mayweather dedicated to the sport ... always in shape ... always working out, at random times ... a true gym rat A student of the game and has gotten better every year since he turned pro. Fundamentally sound ... a true talent Can lead (sometimes) ... can counter his ass off ... a big arsenal of weapons... throws that right hand better than i've seen since Lennox Lewis and now recently David Haye. Can throw the right hand so many different ways... uppercut, straight, looping, hybrid half hook - half uppercut. Has a jab and uses it if need ... loves the leaping left hook ... can faint from shoulders or head ... uses different angles Defense is amazing ... the best in the game today ... none better since Sweet Pea Whitaker. unorthodox stance ... somewhat simular to philly shell but not quite ... rolls alot of punches off of his shoulders This guy is the best fighter of his generation ... as long as he doesn't fall victim to the same things that held back some of the greats before him ...(fighting past his prime, out of ring distractions, women, drugs, money issues, over looking opponents, and coming to a fight in poor shape)
There really are alot of reasons to like Floyd, but I hate it that he doesn't love boxing. He was put into before he even had a concept of choice, he's like a robot trained to box from birth. He's the classic case of someone who never really got to grow up, and his brash exterior houses the fact that he's an emotional wreck because of it.
Current - Calzaghe. All time (but limited to my boxing watching years) Hagler. Ali in a close second and would be ahead I'm sure if I were a old enough to have seen his earlier fights.
Thats probably why he doesn't carry a mature posture and acts like a kid during press conferences. He treats himself by eating candy ... I seen somewhere that when he was a kid he couldn't drink pop or eat candy. Yeah I don't think he likes the sport all that much either ... i'm pretty sure he just does it because he's good at it. Slowly but surely, I see his exit out the game -- very soon within a couple of years. and once he officially leaves, its going to be for good.
duran the greatest lightweight to have ever stepped foot in the ring, decent career up the higher weights as well. h2h only whitaker can lay claim to being as unbeatable as him. just a complete fighter in every sense of the word. great offensive fighter who was also an overlooked defensive great. currently, i have a lot of fav's from the guys fighting at the present: cotto pac vasquez marquez bros. mijares m. castillo (though pass it) wlad
If I have to pick just one, it's Alexis Arguello. Here's a pretty good highlight clip. Sorry I don't know how to embed them. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SJd2j4LKMU8
It's difficult to choose just one favorite since I have several, but my favorite among the favorites is Joe Calzaghe, the best British boxer of all time in my opinion.
