Because he was losing on the score cards and Ortiz quit due to a broken jaw. Ortiz could have possibly stopped him in the later rounds.

That in turn poses the question, did Alvarez get too much credit for Lopez win, and I think he did.

Lopez was moving up in weight. He fought a boxer who was much bigger and broke his jaw in two places. The guy gets huge credit.

Lopez was supposed to be "an opponent" for Ortiz on the road to Canelo. Instead, he fought tooth and nail with a bigger opponent, in a dead even fight(official cards notwithstanding) and broke his jaw, forcing his withdrawal. Hell of a win for a guy deemed a journeyman.

No, great win, you act like breaking somebody's jaw is some sort of technicality. Reminds me of Hatton saying his KO loss to Pac doesn't hold much weight its not like he beat me over twelve rounds

Jaw didn't break itself, and in that case, scorecards are moot. So, to answer the first question, no. And last I looked, not too many are touting Alvarez win over Lopez as anything great. So no to that as well.

**** that. I dont think he got enough credit. He took the fight on kind of short notice, moved up in weight vs a bigger stronger opponent, and held his own en route to that TKO. I'm a Ortiz fan, but gota give Lopez his credit for that fight.

Alvarez gets no credit for beating Lopez. And Ortiz didn't break his own jaw Lopez broke it so he MADE Ortiz quit. He is also the smaller man who moved up just to fight Ortiz and those scorecards were a joke.

Scorecards are irrelevant when you stop someone

Ruiz was outboxing Tua and on his way to a dominant decision win before getting KO'd.
