Nobody has questioned the importance of sparring. I don't see the point of what you're saying.

He can do better. He has defensive skills, he just needs to prioritize them more.

Don't even need to see the sparring. just by his fights I can tell his career won't last as long as someone say.....like a Ward, Donaire,Bradley etc.....
that ***** gets hit....A LOT! and likes it as well for some reason
I love the way he came back to his corner smiling after round 1 vs Alvarado and Garcia was like ' i know you love this ****'

Rios got in physical conditioning and that is absolutely all from the sparring video we just saw. And his trainers got to see him take several flush shots... That's it.

    ---

Just like how studies show no difference in brain damage from career professionals and career amateurs. The countless hours of sparring in each and every training camp cause dementia, parkinsons, and all the other conditions which may or may not arise from boxing.

Doesn't Sergio only spar a few rounds in each camp?

No doubt man..Rios will be one of the more severely affected boxers..he takes too many hard hard shots when fighting and should not be taking shots like that in sparring..no way, it doesnt help anyone to spar like that...i mean he is basically practicing taking hard shots to the head.

He is ALREADY slurring his words..I agree his career wont last long......some guys seem to walk away unpunished after a career taking punishment but seriously, not this guy...al the signs are there now.

Calzaghe didn't spar much either. I doubt Mayweather spars that much too.

You don't need that much sparring.

I'm just posting on Toney's statement:

James Toney has said himself he doesn't do mitts or any conventional preparation other than sparring and look how he has turned out...

The importance of all the training not just sparring is what I am getting at. Toney states he doesn't do mitts or any conventional preparation.

Okay Kragz, I meant to add this instead. I misunderstood and having kidney stone pain and on pain meds don't help, lol. My apologies.

I think he was quoting another poster. Anyways, sparring is where it all comes together! Like anything, there should be a balance and good trainers will know how much their fighters needs.

One episode of 24/7, Freddie Roach said he has to tell Pacquiao to stop training, otherwise he will overtrain.
