It was reported in the press about death threats Groves had received a while ago.

He didn't, but I wish he had. Did you watch that fight? Absolutely disgraceful officiating. Lacy put him down with an illegal shot after the ref had clearly called for a break in the action. And the ref still gave him a count and did nothing to admonish Lacy. Rob really drew the short straw when it came to dodgy refs/judges.

Groves has no reason to make any of this up, especially to Tweet it.

    Fully behind Groves on this.

Yeah, he was never a big enough draw to get the favourable treatment. He must often wonder what might have been.

A lot of people used that fight as a reason why Calzaghe would lose to Lacy. Hilarious, in retrospect. But Reid looked shop-worn then, and he looks abysmal now.

I am just pointing out that those who say Groves is on the road to bigger & better things, is he really?

Both guys fighting faded world champs at different states of retirement.

Its just my little reminder that Groves isnt really as far ahead as the Saint George fanboys here try to make out.

Being from edinburgh the saying "she needs dipped in bleach" or detol is used quite often to unsult a dirty slut. That and the fact groves bird is not black proves quite clearly it was not a rascist insult.

Look at it this way for Groves to take that fight there is literally nothing in it for him.

Say after the Johnson fight (presuming he wins) Groves has two options:

A - Fight someone for £100,000 in the US. An opponent which will teach him something, progress his career, move him up the top 10 with sanctioning bodies, get him more US exposure etc....

    or

B - Fight Anderson for £50k (if that). This fight does none of the above. Sure he'd win the Lonsdale back but he isn't going to hang around to defend it as hes cleared out the division domestically.

By going B the only bonus for him is the satisfaction he'd get from beating Anderson. But it isn't worth it. By fighting him he'll be getting him the biggest payday that guys ever going to get. If I was him i'd rather watch him get battered on TV for a £10k payday whilst my careers going places than make him £20k and put my progression back 6 months and do it myself.

Anderson will lose again and fade back into obscurity, Groves doesn't have to take a step back to do it himself. Its a zero sum game for him.

Once you reach a level in boxing you have to take the fights which make sense with your head not just because some chump is giving you grief and you want to "be a man". Mayweather (and in no way am I comparing Grives to him) takes the fights which make him the most amount of money whilst being winnable for him and enhancing his reputation. Once your in the spotlight you can't keep going back to knock out people who aren't on your level just out of pride, that doesn't make sense.

Groves has a bigger disadvantage in his career because he's tied to a man that resembles a battered cod.

Again, nice try. Fighting Johnson, aged and shop-worn as he is, is still a significant step above Robin Reid.

Groves has at least got two excellent wins over DeGale (yeah, you'll just have to accept that one) and Smith. Who has Kenny beaten of note?

Of course he does, considering what he did to groves when taking the fight on a weeks notice.

You can mock, but facts are facts. Kenny took the fight on late notice, & nearly sparked Groves. If that doesnt derve a rematch, what does??? Al Kenny s guilty of is wanting to rematch Groves on equal terms, warrior style.

In a nutshell, end of story.

Nearly being the main word there. I seem remember a certain pasty ginger Londoner with his hand raised after sparking him mid way through round 6? What would you do if Kenny fought Groves and had his career ended brutally? Would you still have wished for the rematch? Because that is 99% certain to happen, he takes a beating and his chin cracked for good. Then goes back to being a thug.

Anyone remember Brett Flournoy? Simply because he was a boxer people seemed to skip the fact that the man was a disgraceful, drug running, murdering ****. And now he's dead, thank ****. I fear the same (although not to the same extreme) is going on here.
