Duran is definitely great but ya'll are exaggerating like crazy. Much lesser fighters than Rios has gone past 2 rounds and even lasted the distance against a lightweight Duran ffs. Even the Rios haters gotta admit that hes a fukkin beast and would give a great account of himself before losing to the more versatile Duran. One common misconception is that any great from the past eras would automatically blow away today's fighters.

Rios would last longer than 2, agreed there.

Giving a good account of himself? If getting the **** kicked outta you every second of every round before eventually getting stopped is giving a good account of yourself, then I agree.

Do previous generation greats get overrated? Sometimes, yes.

But in this case, Duran was 100 levels above Rios as a fighter, and would **** him up in a VERY one sided fight.

Duran one sidedly beat the **** outta Palomino, who was a MUCH better fighter than Rios.

Giving a good account of himself as far as landing good shots even if its only in spurts and making it past the early rounds. That alone qualifies as giving a good account of yourself. And yeah he outclassed Palomino, but he had just loss to Benitez and retirement was the only thing on his mind. Besides, there were fighters with almost as many losses as they had wins, that went the distance and made it to the later rounds with a 135 lb Duran. Rios would lose and maybe even one sided, but he would get his point across and would land power shots.

You might have a point there but Rios is not an elite, never would even be near elite, or hover between great and elite. He is hovering between a bum and great.

Imagine Rios retiring young due to a traumatic brain injury!

Rios is yet to fight a fighter thats even remotely close to great, in fact he has'nt even fought a very good champion, and has gone life and death with just good fighters nevermind real champions.

Any of the past top great lightweighs and junior welters would massacre Rios. He's just to hittable.
A fighter like Duran who has great waist movement, Rios would'nt even lay a glove on.
I dont think Rios would even win a 15 second sequence against Duran, much less a full round.

Although it probably would end early for Rios because of the amount of action going on.
