I don't think boxing takes much off one's life, permitting they don't suffer serious brain damage. Boxers are, on average, probably much healthier than non-boxers. Again, permitting serious brain damage isn't/wasn't experienced.

Boxers cannot avoid increased joint pain and arthritis from the lifelong commitment to rigorous training. So they will have to deal with nagging physical injuries for sure.

A more interesting phenomenon is how older/retired boxers have a tendency to "get lost" after they lose the spotlight or retire. Think Arturo Gatti and drunkenness/suicide/murder (whatever it was). This appears to be a mental thing though

I have no research or statistics to support my opinion. merely an opinion

Everyone's different, and we have no way of measuring how long Boxers would of lived had they not Boxed.

Thus, there's no answer for you.

They live longer since they are healthy. However there is a lot of successful boxers turn to drugs bc they have so much money than they know what to do with it.

I have always wondered more about arthritis, hip replacements etc

Like somebody mentioned, they must suffer in old age. Esp backs, shoulders etc? No?

Boxing isn't taking a lot of years compared to drugs, alcohol, and partying I'll tell you that much.

I thought this thread was going to be about how many years we lose by constantly posting on ESB ! (it really adds up.)

In my case, quite a few.

Silly question really. Look at Cory Sanders and look at Ali. Go figure. When it's your time, its over.
