:deal He always seemed such a pleasant man. I think the aim of the game is to leave the world behind a better place than when you came into it. It's very sad, but if anything, people should be comforted by the fact that Manny certainly did that.
It's a tough thing, but the other poster was right; you just have to try to do what you can to leave the world a better place than you saw coming in. The man left his mark. No one can or should ask more.Well played, Manny.
Its official Vlad just made a statement on Facebook as well as other sources. I am very saddened by his loss and I consider Manny one of the greatest trainers of my time and all-time. I am amazed at how he turned Tommy Hearns into a puncher teaching leverage to Tommy. He was also key for Lennox Lewis and Vlad. He was a fair and sometimes brilliant announcer and offered great insight and opinion. Class Act and beautiful man. I hope his soul rests in peace
boxing is now missing one of the truly great trainers, and a first class gentleman. Whenever Mr. Steward announced a fight or was working the corner in a heavyweight championship or a four rounder you could tell he had a true passion for what he did...RIP. Angelo Dundee, now Manny Steward...both will be sorely missed...
Vlads post Boxing has suffered a tremendous loss with the passing of Emanuel Steward. Vitali and I, along with the entire Team Klitschko, send our deepest and most heartfelt condolences to Emanuel's family and friends. It is not often that a person in any line of work gets a chance to work with a legend, well I was privileged enough to work with one for almost a decade. I will miss our time together. The long talks about boxing, the world, and life itself. Most of all I will miss our friendship. My team and I will carry on with the goals we had set while Emanuel was with us because that is exactly what Emanuel would have wanted. I know he will be with us in spirit along the way and we will accomplish these goals in his honor. Rest in peace Emanuel. You will be greatly missed. Until we meet again my friend. Wladimir Klitschko
A master trainer and a breath of fresh air in the boxing world. Always enjoyed and respected his commentary. When watching his fighters in action while he was in their corner he seemed to have such a firm handle on the situation at hand and when they heeded his expert instruction they usually prevailed. RIP Manny Steward.
A beautiful statement by Wlad, brings a tear to my eyes. RIP to a legend of boxing who will be remembered forever.
RIP to one of the sports great trainers and in many ways, one of the sport's great alchemists. Few were able to refine talent to the extent that he did, and few would have been able to repair fighters who were thought to be damaged goods and make them viable (at worst) to undeniably great at best. Maybe he was able to do this because he, by all accounts, actually gave a damn about his charges. Maybe it's because it was obvious to everyone that he loved the sport that damned much. Whatever the reason, the fact is that we've lost a great trainer, a great teacher, and a great alchemist. What makes this even worse is that we've lost a good person as well. And that really sucks. RIP Manny. You'll be missed.
Been away for a couple of days and just seen the news. Just a really sad thing to happen. Manny was all class as a trainer and commentator and seemed to be a genuinely kind person with the fighters best interests at heart. I remember Manny talking with Mike Tyson in the ring after his fighter Lennox Lewis destroyed him and I recall Manny being incredibly kind to a clearly hurt and sad Tyson. He always remembered and had time for the other guy, Manny. RIP Manny you were genuinely part of what makes boxing great.
