You are a lifelong boxing fan yet instead of contributing to some good boxing talk, predict the death of the sport by 2030? Yeah... Right. I am going to go out on a limb and say you train in mixed martial arts? :think :nod Boxing dying in Mexico? So only Mexican/Americans love boxing? Since the numbers go up every time a Mexican is fighting. Go figure.
Fellas i'm from LA. Business is Business and mma is bringing in more business to mma owners, thus that 8 year old that was learning how to box is now learning how to grapple, kick and submit. Im reffering the quality fighters and then quality fights in the future. If you don't already see the level of competition dying here in the states and mexico then you guys are ****ing morons. How is the sport supposed to stay alive withouth any good schools or teachers?? MMA is growing and as soon as they get a perfectly marketable person who is not a hype job then i will take off even more. I was personally in mexico and looking for a boxing gym to go put some work in and 2 times they send me to a Vale todo gym, get a grip abot this boxing is or can't die, we need to open up boxing gyms because the young kids have really lost their interest in boxing.
I have trained both, i will admit that its' easier to become a proffeisonal mma fighter and me some quick money thatn to become a proffessional boxer and make money. MMA really is easier of the 2 sports for me. Which will make mma more attracting an young kids wil train mma instead of the sweet science. MMA gyms (Schools) are popping up everywhere and alot of young kids are training. Boxing gyms (schools) are closing and very few kids are training and practicing it as oppose to 20-30 years ago.
it's only a few levels above cockfights? it seems you're still living in 1996... mma is a much more complex sport than boxing as there are many different ways in which your opponent can attack. todays top mma fighters like silva, st.pierre, jones are all much more skilled and sophisticated fighters than most boxers who only control one aspect of fighting. any top mma guy would most likey tap a top boxer out in seconds.
MMA is actually loosing popularity very fast. Not that many people care about it anymore. Maybe what turns people away from it are 2 homosexuals rolling on the floor trying to **** each other.
They keep saying boxing is a dying sport like back in the 90s but we still going strong. Boxing 4 ever!
thats like saying arena football will overtake regular football or that table tennis will overtake tennis
Bull**** I live in Mexico's second largest city (+6 million habitants) and there are Morales more than 10 mms gyms
no they wouldn't. the mma guy would use leg kicks to keep a distance and weaken the boxers body and legs, then shoot for a low takedown so as to avoid uppercuts. once on the ground the boxer is done. most mma guys use boxers in sparring sessions to practice not getting hit while attempting takedowns.
MMA is definitely here to stay but definitely reached a plateau. Soon MMA fans will realize that their sport is very similar to boxing. Some people like it, some people don't. Most of my friends that like MMA always said that it will eventually become a mainstream sport like basketball which is simply not true. Whether submissions in MMA or punching a guy in the head in boxing, fighting will never really be a family/household sport. Obviously a few mega stars emerge once in a while which is the steak, but the sports will always be carried by the gravy.
