Looking forward to this one. Part of me agrees with you, Gavin seems to have bags of talent but doesn't want to work...getting a beating might put him on the right path (basically like Haye with Thompson). Although I can't see it, Witter is a reflex fighter and he's only going downhill now.

Considering how average Ricky was and was just waiting to be exposed his whole career. If he hadn't of ducked Junior when they were both in their prime, he may have learned more as a fighter, later on in his career. I don't think those two defeats would have been as devastating. Put it that way. But I always believed Junior would have been hell for Ricky. Because of the styles, styles make fights. This was confirmed to me again, when I saw Hatton fight Mayweather. I believed Junior would have beaten Ricky, and after that fight, I believed it even more.

Junior always called Ricky out to his face, and Ricky came out predictably speaking the numbers game for the excuse.

The fight could have happened and it SHOULD have happened. After seeing how utterly terrible Hatton was made to look in the last two fights, not that Junior is in Pacquiao or Mayweathers league, but he would have caused **** loads of trouble for Ricky when they were both in their prime.

Junior was quick, accurate, awkward, not one dimensional, could fight inside and outside, a good jab, unorthodox, could fight on the back foot, and was OK defensively.

Considering Ricky's come forward pressure style, with zero defence, there is a chance Ricky could have been knocked spark out coming in.

If theres a Hatton fight that shows that Witter would have beaten him/ given him trouble its the Magee fight, not the Mayweather fight.

Witter is so far off Mayweathers level that any perceived style similarities between the 2 are a big stretch when weighing up how a Hatton fight would go. Magee gave Hatton a lot of trouble and is a lot closer ability to Witter than Mayweather.

(I do appreciate you are just trolling Craney but I thought I'd make the point in any case)

Not trolling at all, I'm being deadly serious for once.

Neither did I directly compare Witter to Mayweather, if you actually read again, you'll see I said Witter wasn't in the same league. When I analyze the styles in their prime, Witter outboxes and out thinks Hatton. Maybe doesn't stop him, but I think he beats him on points.

However, with Ricky's come forward style, a quick hook that Ricky doesn't see, could have dropped him like a sack of ****, as seen in the Mayweather and Pacquiao fights. And I believe Witter would have been more than capable of timing a quick punch as Ricky came in like a blind bull with no defence.

People just assume Ricky beats him up because of the exposure and level Ricky got to, Witter never really got that high or got those mega fights, but this shouldn't be used against him when you analyze a fight.

LOOK AT THE STYLES. Witter would have been a nightmare for Ricky.

Watch the Magee fight instead. Far more relevant.

Junior Witter has a problem with throwing shot punches, and has a strange obsession with wide hooks, he also needs to throw some more straight punches.

Motor skills wise, and athletically he has the ability to do this.

The Brendan Ingle style has just gone to his head.

Both Floyd and Pac punch harder and more accurate than Witter did though.

The key to Hatton winning this fight is maintaining his discipline. Clearly it didn't happen often, but considering the way he boxed against Vince Phillips, and against Magee at times....

Against Witter you've got to walk forward with a high guard - higher than what Hatton typically employed, and then lead with the right hand.... because you'd be damn sure that Witter would primarily employ the southpaw stance.

The best fighters Witter beat were N'Dou, who was a diesel tractor, and Harris, who was ****ed and always had a shaky chin.

Witter would be relying on Hatton losing his cool to win, he's the lesser skilled of the two with lesser fundamentals.

Imagine what an elite punch picker like Marquez would have done to Witter.

    120-108 x 3. Easy.
