    The first time Jose 'Pipino' Cuevas met Tony Ayala Jr. was just before
    'El Torito' had his bout with Jose Baltazar, on January 16, 1981 in
    San Antonio.

    That is where the 'classy' Tony Ayala Jr. spit on his opponent when he was down on one knee.

    After watching Ayala Jr. do that, you just knew he was a 'low rent punk'.

    The funny thing is to believe Lou Duva when it came to hyping his fighters and their accomplishments. He always oversold them and understated whomever was the opposition. That was Lou.

    Where was Pipino Cuevas in 1977...

    Always in Mexico City, where he helped his father run '3' Butcher Shops.

    Pipino's, base training area was at the Public Gym, on the second floor above
    the Arce Public Baths in Mexico City, where he had been training since '1975'.

    Lupe Sanchez (Manager) monitored every daily 1 1/2 hour work-out.

    Pipino's fight promoter, Danny Viilaneuva, who represented all of Pipino's United
    States visits, laughed off a supposed 'sparring session' with Tony Ayala Jr. in
    San Antonio.

    The Arce Gym was loaded with boxers every day. Pipino never had trouble finding
    anyone to spar with, especially with Lupe Sanchez running things. Lupe had about
    75 fighters in his stable, and that would be an understatement.

    I don't care if this sparring session happened or not. Sparring is all but meaningless. It's for training, that's it.

    Despite having raw talent, Ayala was a despicable human being with a lifetime of criminal activity who is now in prison where he belongs, and should stay for some time.

    Tony Ayala was an overrated thug/****** he beat up Pipino Cuevas in a sparring session like I own the Brooklyn bridge lol I remember reading that Duran was going to be matched with Ayala before he got put in prison lol Duran would have dismantled him worse than he did Davey Moore and Ayala was not even as good as Moore IMO . I get so sick about hearing how good this guy "would" have been it was karma when the espn cameras caught him whaling like a schoolgirl after he quit on the stool against Campas before Campas could knock him out. and then finally getting properly knocked out vs. Bonsante he is a piece of **** plain and simple and doesn't even deserve to be mentioned in the same paragraph with Cuevas

    I usually stumble upon them when I've just watched a fight or been discussing a fight and search to see whether its been discussed here before. Re: your second question: sometimes.

    BTW, did you catch my question for you in the Duran thread? How did you score those fights where you thought that Duran really won?

    It's been over a decade since l've seen either of those fights. After rewatching them again l don't think Duran beat Paz as l scored it 115-113 of Paz. But l thought he edged it against Camacho. But my point was that Duran didn't always win close fights he lost close fights too. And regardless of who got the nod in the Camacho fight especially, it was a fight that either fighter could have won.
