Smart move for GGG. Everyone at middleweight is ducking or will be ducking him at some point. Moving up affords him some fresh opportunities. I'd love to see him become Ward's mandatory.
I'd worry about Golovkin's lack of size against better super middleweights. He claims he can fight at 154lbs but surely he'd then be undersized against 168lbers? The same goes for Martinez. Those two can both fight at 154lbs and yet who would fancy Martinez to beat Froch, Ward, Kessler, Bute etc.? His alck of size would hurt him and it'd be an even bigger factor for Golovkin who is such a force at 160 because of his strength and power, which would be a lesser factor at a higher weight. Still, I'd love to see Golovkin mix it with those guys. I just hope it comes when his body is ready for it. If it comes too soon, he might be lacking power to be a serious threat to the elite.
I think it sucks that he's been forced into this situation. Love the hypocracy of the WBA stripping Geale for not facing him when they allowed Sturm to run screaming for god knows how long!
I can't see why all you guys are saying this is good? I want to see him face the best in his natural weight division which clearly apears to be middleweight! This is crap!!!
I'm all for it. If he can't get the big fights at 160, then get them elsewhere and make a name for himself.
I can't see any of the top super middle weights ducking him though. Ward, Froch, Kessler, must fancy their chances. Not sure about Bute after Golovkin stopped him as an amateur. If he bangs out Oosthuizen then Golovkin would be a legit challenger to the top guys and any of the above fights could be viable. Would love to see Froch V Golovkin in Nottingham !!!
Sure he can cut him down to size with his body punching, He keeps balance very well as well so he's got the tools for the job. Will be a back and forth battle, but GGG will win IMO.
Yeah, I think that's the general consensus throughout too. Oosthuizen isn't bad by any stretch but a good smaller guy beats a decent bigger guy. Who is his WBA MW mandatory? Its a weird route to take IMO why not, now he has HBO backing, fight the bigger names at middle? Surely they all can't be ducking a beltholder who now fights on HBO...
