While I'm not going to argue pacquiao's atg status because he unquestionably is an atg from his weight jumping escapades I also tend to find it a little crazy that outside of barerra I every last one of Manny's big name opponents have come off the backs of terrible loses or performances where you clearly see they were past it I understand the argument that what he is doing is unprecedented as far as the weight jumping but still that rubs me the wrong way again barerra I was cool but how can you sit bacck an give a guy like ortiz flack for a draw against peterson after knocking him down but taut marquez I-II-or III as this great victory now again I give him some credit because you still have to go out and win but let's look at his "3 biggest" opponents he fights barerra twice the first of which i have nothing bad to say about it was a great victory but you cant in the same breathe **** on pacquiao fighting a guy like cotto again because he was knocked out then say the second barerra fight is this great victory when they ended the same then you have moralas who in the time span when the first fight happened he was 1-5 in that period he lost his fight before pac I he lost the fight before pac II then lost 3-4 straight and retired after Pac III I won't even address the marquez bouts because for the most part it's universally acknowledged that he lost all 3 fights and I made the comparison earlier with ortiz if you knock someone down 3 TIMES in a round all you really have to do is win 3-4 rounds total in that fight to win and you get a draw that means you got your ass beat the rest of the fight point blank period and i reiterate I have no hate for pacquaio I dislike his fans but I find him quite entertaining in the ring but call a spade a spade.
Oscar weighed less than Manny on fight night. A middle-weight who hadn't fought at WW in more than seven years weighed less than a lightweight who had only fought a lightweight a few times. If that doesn't spring an alarm then you really ought to do some reflection on what weight classes are and why they matter. The man was weight drained beyond belief. He was also coming off a decisive loss to Floyd and a fight with Steve Forbes where he looked very, very average (including suffering a broken or fractured orbital bone - against a feather puncher). DLH was dead at the weight and coming off consecutive performances where he was very clearly NOT the PFP DLH. As I stated earlier, Pac's claim-to-fame was/is fighting over-the-hill marquee names coming off career losses, and/or consecutive losses, and/or consecutive poor performances. Additionally, Pac relies on catchweights to gain more advantage. When fighters move up in weight they sacrifice (under normal circumstances) speed, power and lean muscle mass. Not only did Manny not sacrifice any of those things, but he actually increased/improved upon all of those things. Keep in mind Manny only fought a few times at 135. So for someone whose body isn't even accustom to 135 to all of a sudden look like he's been fighting at 147 his whole life, OVERNIGHT, is going to raise some eyebrows. Then there's the claims from the Mayweather clan including two world-class trainers, an ATG fighter, and other former world champions Paulie Malignaggi and Nate Campbell. These are all professionals who spent their entire career fighting around the same weight class. They would know better than any goddamn internet forum nuthugger. More people haven't spoken out due to fear of lawsuit (IMO). Additionally, the reasons provided by Manny and his trainer/promoter have been tiresome to say the least as to why a drug test is unnecessary and therefore they won't do it. No "evidence" per se, but plenty of legitimate suspicion. Enough to asterisk his entire career (in my mind).
What? The Cotto Manny beat was a joke. He got plastered by Margs and then given a gift decision (or at best a draw with Clottey). Then there's the catch-weight. The only fight I give Manny credit for is Bradley, and I give him absolute credit for that victory. Manny just didn't look like a terrorizing WW anymore (considering Bradley had torn ligament).
I applaud his accomplishments up to 135. Honestly, it's impressive. But all the controversy that followed him up to WW really created some suspicion regarding the legitimacy of his career (for me).
